The point of mask mandates and other mitigation measures in the first place was to prevent hospitals from being overwhelmed. We are nowhere near that level.

It wasn't just hospitals. It was to reduce the spread of the virus in general, with one of the many advantages of that including hospitals not being overrun and then dying from lack of care.

The other benefit includes people not dying just from the virus itself, regardless of care.

You're right, people always were going to die. The point is to minimize it as much as possible, and that's what masks help do.

If we took every measure to reduce deaths even minimally, we would have banned cars, salt, sugar, and sitting.
