Weekly Casual Conversation & Questions Thread CHI Talks

Welcome to r/Chicago's weekly casual conversation and questions thread.

This thread is the place to post general topics that don't necessarily need their own post, such as:

* Recommendations requests,

* General questions about moving to or living in Chicago,

* Personal anecdotes related to Chicago

And so on.

All subreddit rules apply and will be enforced within this thread. Posts looking to buy or sell should go in /r/ChicagoList, and posts advertising rental units should go there or in /r/ChicagoApartments. Posts of this nature that are posted in this thread will be removed.

We’ve answered quite a few commonly-asked questions on our wiki, and we encourage you to utilize it as a resource for answering your question as well.

Be sure to also check out the Chicago Events Calendar and /r/AskChicago!

This thread is sorted by "new" so that the most recent comments appear first. The new weekly thread is posted every Monday morning at 12:01 AM.

This might be an unpopular opinion, but there is no significant advantage to getting tested right now. You're sick to the point you can't work/function and are contagious. Just proceed as if you have COVID. You shouldn't be near people and it sounds like you aren't. Monitor your symptoms, have a plan for if things get worse (what ER would you go to, how would you get there) and make sure you have a support system in place for food, etc. Call your doctor tomorrow and see what they advise.

Wishing you a speedy recovery
