When is the right time to get a dog? [Help]

I sometimes wonder if it’s like kids where there is no “right” time per se. My husband and I have always agreed we’d ideally love to have a place with a yard so the dog could have a space to explore without a leash (as opposed to leashed walks). Also, I never thought it would be fair to leave a dog home all day while both of us were at work. Hubby is working from home now and so even tho we don’t have a yard, I think we could feasibly get a dog. What boxes did you check off on your personal lists before getting a dog? Or what had you wished you had known? Any and all advice is appreciated!

For starters, id like to say how happy I am that you understand that dogs take a ton of time and effort to make them what you'd like them to be.

Have you done any research as to what type of breed you might want or what suits YOUR lifestyle? Without that information I can't give much advice.

Just that puppies= potential late nights cleaning their kennels and their bodies. Some breeds are more likely to take to a kennel than others. Ive had a couple of both. One dog took easy to kennel training, the other ended up behaving better when sleeping in my bed than she did her kennel.

All comes down to the breed for a general understanding.
