We have that not now, it's called the United States.

The reason it's failing: Citizens United & the current SCOTUS (they're destroying separation of church and state)

What you're suggesting lacks freedom, freedom to believe in what you want to believe (this includes speech and religion). Freedom (and for intelligent out there, you know I actually mean liberties) is a requirement for a successful society.

Let's not follow the path of Russia and other failed/failing states. Don't let this Republican fascism convince you they're correct or that the way to respond to them is equally authoritarian. It's not. It's freedom and democracy. democracy without authoritarianism and without belief system as part of government. Facts and science are not partisan and not political.

It’s so true. Every facet of the American government seems to have been designed to fail. It’s a country designed to not function as a country.

7

u/Dommo1717 Jun 30 '22

It’s funny that I was discussing this general topic recently with a friend. I served in the Army for many years and it seems that after one of my deployments I came back to a different place than I left. The bigger issue it that more likely I just realized it wasn’t quite as idealistic as I had thought it was, maybe I finally opened my eyes.

I cannot overstate how absolutely unconcerned I am with literally anything you might chose that differs from what I would chose. Religion or lack thereof, sexuality, whether you want to have an abortion or not…those are all YOUR choices. They don’t effect me in any way other than having a made up argument on social media (not here, just commonly happens). I have realized that there are so many places in this world that “out America” us, it’s almost humorous.

Jesus Christ, methotrexate sent my autoimmune arthritis into remission. I can't imagine if I hadn't been able to do those injections. But if the timeline was different between the hydroxychloroquinine hysteria and now this, I would never have had a chance.

Other women are going to be disabled for life for something I was successfully treated for 15 years ago. They will die decades earlier. It is barbaric.

261

u/Keitt58 Jun 30 '22

I mean they did ban Usury for centuries until they realized how profitable it was.

240

u/NearbyWallaby Jun 30 '22 edited Jun 30 '22 Helpful Bless Up

If I remember correctly, the Bible Condemns the sin of usury more than nearly any other…both in the old and new testaments. Yet, during my 20 years in several conservative, “Bible believing” churches, I never heard anyone ever bring it up. Not even once.

At one point, I actually went to few of my pastors and asked why they never brought up that sin, but loved to harp on things like homosexuality and abortion. They saw nothing wrong with that. They’d usually say some cop out like “it’s just a necessary evil” or something and change the subject.

That was when I really started questioning how picky and choosey American evangelicals are with the Bible. It’s the highest hypocrisy to ignore the purported word of god on a matter of justice for the poor and disenfranchised, while enforcing your personal beliefs on subjects like abortion, where the Bible doesn’t even say a word against it, despite it being a known practice in ancient times.

I have lost all respect for this group of people. They talk out of both sides of their faces. It was never about things like love or truth.

89

u/Scyhaz Jun 30 '22

Fun fact: For those centuries where Christians weren't allowed to give loans with interest, Jewish law allowed Jews to provide loans with interest to Gentiles.

That's where the money-grubbing Jew stereotype comes from and where some of Europe's long-held anti-Semitism is derived.

6

u/OkCaregiver517 Jun 30 '22

The Merchant of Venice is a perfect example of this.

7

u/Ladysupersizedbitch Jun 30 '22

I actually listened to a podcast that talked about this the other day. Back during the Black Death, there was a fuckton of Jews who were slaughtered bc some people wanted to blame a group that everyone already hated for bringing the plague. It was almost like the witch trials, where they actually thought Jews were purposely infecting towns and cities, even though Jews were dying from the plague just as much as non-Jews. People have always been fucking stupid.

Charging interest

24

u/BladdermirPootin Jun 30 '22

Ohhhhhhh. This is actually fascinating that Christians completely ignore that. And it actually makes sense. Bravo old and new testaments. Interest is fucking criminal.

23

u/Rincewind-the-wizard Jun 30 '22

Pre-reformation europe adhered to anti-usury laws pretty well. The rise of capitalist ideology put an end to that cuz it wasn’t profitable though

9

u/seldom_correct Jun 30 '22

Oh, it’s far worse than that.

Jews discovered a loophole in the scripture. They decided it was okay to charge interest, so long as the person borrowing the money was a Jew. This started well before the pre-reformation period you’re talking about.

Europe has been anti-Semitic for a loooooooooooongg time. They hated the Jews with a passion. The term “ghetto” was created to describe the, typically poor, neighborhoods that Jews were forcibly confined to in some European areas.

But, Christians discovered the Jews had created a usable loophole! Now Christians could borrow money without needing to make other Christians sin! Great times were had by all!

Until somebody realized all the banks were run by Jews who had gotten rich by charging interest on loans. This is the origin of the “Jews are cheap”, “Jews steal money”, “Jews run the banks”, and “Jews are secretly in charge of everything because they’re all mega rich” stereotypes. All of which had some basis in reality as many European banks were run by Jews who had gotten rich by charging interest on loans.

Thus, Christianity created their own loophole, but in typical Christian fashion: they just ignored the multiple, multiple explicit orders from their god to never charge interest.

Modern anti-Semitism is rooted in medieval European Christianity.

6

u/DShepard Jun 30 '22

You don't need to pay back the money you owe if you just banish and/or genocide the people you borrowed from. Oldest trick in the book, and still pretty popular.

u/GetTheFalkOut Jun 30 '22

What is interesting is that the reason there are stereotypes about Jewish people controlling money are because the Christians wouldn't lend money etc because of it being a sin so the Jewish people were the only ones doing it. Then they started hating on them because they were the only ones who would do it.

13

u/seldom_correct Jun 30 '22

You’re referring to Deuteronomy 23:19-20: “You shall not charge interest on loans to your brother, interest on money, interest on food, interest on anything that is lent for interest. You may charge a foreigner interest, but you may not charge your brother interest, that the Lord your God may bless you in all that you undertake in the land that you are entering to take possession of it.”

It’s superseded by Jesus himself in Luke 6:34-35: “And if you lend to those from whom you expect to receive, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners, to get back the same amount. But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return, and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High, for he is kind to the ungrateful and the evil.”

The Bible teaches that you will lend out money without interest to anyone who asks, regardless of the reason. The Torah teaches that you may lend money with interest to all non-Jews.

In fact, you cannot find a single time that “brother” is used by Jesus to specifically refer to believers. That is a strictly Old Testament, and therefore strictly Jewish, usage. But even the Jewish usage is backed by references to “foreigners” and Gentiles.

It is 100% Biblical and Christian to say that usury is a sin in all circumstances. You are telling lies, though perhaps not intentionally so.

You’re on the fucking internet. The Bible has been cross referenced and indexed in every possible way you can imagine. Stop assuming you know any-goddamn-thing and start looking shit up before spreading lies.

To paraphrase and gender swap a statement from some republican politician: "If it's legitimate sex, the male body has ways to try to start the whole thing up."

I think everyone is missing the point of her saying “Gods Will”. It’s sarcasm for those of you who weren’t sure.

78

u/Nidis Jun 30 '22

Is anyone really having trouble with that? You would have to be pretty media-illiterate to not understand this story...

26

u/berogg Jun 30 '22

Yes, just sort by controversial.

8

u/metal_opera Jun 30 '22

Wow, it’s like a bunch of angry 13 year old boys. I knew it was going to be awful, but it’s awful and childish.

4

u/The_Chorizo_Bandit Jun 30 '22

awful and childish

Welcome to Reddit. Would you like the tour? We also have an increasingly popular exhibition of racist and homophobic that you might care to peruse?

There’s no point in explaining. The ones who get it know and the ones who don’t are most likely the ones who end up voting for the politicians who help aid in these ridiculous laws and rulings. Stupid is stupid and sometimes you can’t change stupid people but we gotta live with em.

Us government spends.morw than 41 million on Viagra

https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/us-government-subsidize-viagra/

Anyone in the Senate and government shouldn't be allowed Viagra

Edit: as someone said, this applies to people who were and are still in the service. My issue is with elected officials

64

u/SlowSecurity9673 Jun 30 '22

Nobody should be allowed it.

If we're going by gods decision then he decided you don't get to fuck with a hard dick.

But of course God only matters when it's convenient, that's the way Christianity work.

30

u/ZomboFc Jun 30 '22

One of the funniest (sad funny) things ever is that these religious people talk shit about science yet post from a device that requires such scientific precision, as a computer scientist, it still amazes me it's possible.

Satellites backbones, gateways, all transistors.

Yet they post this anti science filth and their cult base injects it into their veins and screams at the top of their lungs how wrong science is, cause of their invisible bronze goat age hearder diety got it all right !!!

I always think that with eyeglasses as well. I see so many people arguing anti-choice saying it's God's will/grace, while they wear glasses/contacts.

I believe it's also commonly used for altitude sickness and the military does operate in mountain ranges. The ED treatment is just a side effect of the original purpose.

I’ve commented before about working in a wealthy DC suburb physician’s office, and my disconcerting observations about the old power players…

They sure do love their boner pills, almost as much at their amphetamines.

Frequent STI testing after international travel is a thing too. Much more frequent than the general (even young and single) population.

I simply love all the comments that show how so many men are incapable of viewing women as anything other than a hole to fuck. Newsflash, Bette Midler doesn’t give one flying fuck if your crusty ass finds her attractive

From reading the comments I'm starting to think that the inability to understand sarcasm is God's will.

It really is though

I don’t wanna be around people that don’t have common sense and sarcasm is a quick way to fid out lmao

There was an interview on the podcast “we are supported by” with Kristen Bell and Monica Padman where it was stated (by the person interviewed) that viagra was a mistake in a sense. That one of the only level playing fields women had was that men were more limp as they aged. I had never thought of it that way or much since, but now, with these changes…Bette Midler has a point.

Edit: grammar/comma

It is also God’s will to have high blood pressure, heart conditions, diabetes, etc. It was also His will that people create medication to treat them. So I’m assuming Bette takes no medication for anything?
