What do you do that you earn six figures?

It seems like a lot of people make a lot of money and it seems like I’m missing out on something. So those of you that do, whats your occupation that pays so well?

Sorry for the confusion. I’m a Corporate Controller. CPA and MAcc. Although, it’d probably be easier directing planes then some of the employees I have.

Also a financial controller making 6 figures but no designation. Just a four year business degree, some CPA course completion, and 15 years of industry experience. I don’t need to get my designation at this point.

Apply before you get out or whenever there is a bid on USAjobs.gov. It will take a while for to get through the process. There is a bid out now that closes on the 26th. Won't hurt to out your name in the hat. FAA will work with you if you can't make a certain class date due to still being in the military. 2.5 years might be pushing it but the worst they'll say is you might have to reapply. Hopefully that isn't the case cause you want to get the academy out of the damn way.

Thanks for the advice, if i have a CTO already do i still have to go thru the same hiring process?

Yes. There has been instances where people would be directly hired to a specific facility but that's somewhat rare. There used to be VRA bids which was for Veteran's that held. 2152 for ar least 52 weeks in the military but haven't see in awhile.

Damn thatd be cool if I could go directly to a facility, but ill be applying for everything starting about a year before i get out

I suppose two pieces of advice I’d share are:

  1. Find a way to provide value rather than being a strict overhead cost. Approach every day with the mindset of “how can I add value to this position, department, company” etc.

  2. I’ve always taken the mindset of my job is to make my boss’s life easier. Now being the boss, I hope my employees do the same. Anticipate their needs, go above and beyond, do it accurately. It’ll get you a long way.

I believe this has worked for me throughout the years, maybe it’d work for you too.

Great advise, thank you!

Controller here as well. One characteristic I value in a GL accountant is the ability to present potential solutions alongside the problem being escalated to me and doing so in a clear/concise matter.

1

u/GrizzledPanda 9d ago

You’re absolutely right. Don’t ever bring a problem to anyone without thinking through possible solutions first and be ready to discuss them.

Do you have your CPA? If yes go public accounting. A few years experience will get you into much more cushy accounting jobs. Plus the pay is decent though the hours suck.
