What do you do that you earn six figures?

It seems like a lot of people make a lot of money and it seems like I’m missing out on something. So those of you that do, whats your occupation that pays so well?

$55k does sound low, unless you are in a very lcol area. OP said he is in bay area and $150k is base, so he probably got a bunch of stock that has done well over the last 2 years. Making 300k in 2 years is very unrealistic for most people. I know people making that much, but that is at FAANG companies with 6+ years of experience AND in HCOL areas only.

With that said, work for 2 years and then jump to another company. Then do it again. And possibly again. That's how you get 5 digit pay raises easily.

My first job paid very low, I just started this high paying job 2 months ago. Gain that experience, then use it to leverage for a higher salary! We all start somewhere, just keep slowly improving and you'll get to where you wanna be.

Probably California. 55k isn’t terrible depending on the area. That’s around what I started at out of college in a low cost of living area.

Just make sure if you move to a place with a higher cost of living you don’t get low balled because they think you don’t know better. Happened to me, took a couple years to leave again and correct it.

Not FAANG, but still a good tier 2 company (you probably haven't heard of it though). I'm in silicon valley were salaries are high.

There’s a fair chance you’re being underpaid if you’re in the US.

There are far more job openings that would pay a new grad more than $55k than there are ones that would pay that much or less.
