What do you do that you earn six figures?

It seems like a lot of people make a lot of money and it seems like I’m missing out on something. So those of you that do, whats your occupation that pays so well?

Software developer here. Make six figures but don’t think I’ll ever hit 200k where I’m working. Are you in Cali?

Yes Bay Area. Base salary is 155k

Yeah but cost of living in Bay Area is ridiculous. I make $250+ in IT sales and the most money I’ve ever made is when I’ve bought and sold my last two homes. If you live in an area where a decent house is over $1M then I don’t think it’s worth it.

Its worth it for me. I pay 2k a month in rent and save a ton each year. Will likely move to vermont once I have enough money to buy a house.

Totally understand and if you enjoy it then to each their own. I didn’t buy my first house until I was 29. My mortgage was $2k and I sold in 3 years at a $75k profit. I realize that’s an extreme scenario but it’s just my point of view. Everyone is at a different point in their life and has to make their own decisions based on their circumstances.

Side note - I highly encourage everyone to try and sell their homes without a real estate agent. It’s not hard to do and you save 3% of your sale price. If you sell a $300k house that $9k you’re paying someone for something you could easily do. Honestly it took me about 2 days of work and and research. Worst case scenario, you hire one after 2 months of not being able to sell on your own.

Thanks for the advice! Personally I would love to leave Silicon Valley, but my SO is in the management chain at a FAANg and very career driven. So I’m stuck here. I’d love to move to Vermont right now. She says we could in the future but we will see. Their may be a 10k mortgage in my future which I do not want
