Ya tell me about it. I dont have the game, but I love seeing what everyone's doing and the build combinations make this great game a meme generator.

4

u/Napoleon_Fallaparte 9d ago

Same…kids are out of school for the summer so free time just took a nosedive

0

u/Op3rat0rr 8d ago

Zero for me. It's deep into my backlog. 30 yo adult with spouse, house, demanding career, other hobbies and interests, etc etc... won't be able to touch the game for years, if that.

Yea saw the price tag, decided to just play botw again, beat it in 5 days, got my fix.

I understand that the price tag is fine for some players but supporting a base price of $70 will just make every other game move to that price. Looks fun but a week of gaming isn't worth the $70 for me.

Edit: a bunch of you seem upset over my personally decision. I'm not telling anyone to not buy the game. I'm just choosing not to and that's okay.

30

u/HHcougar 9d ago

I bought games for $60 in 2005.

$70 in 2023 is far cheaper.

With inflation that game in '05 cost the equivalent to $93 dollars today.

Making some moral stance that you won't "support" a natural price increase (which happens with every product) is dumb.

Video games have never been cheaper, and a price hike to $70 really doesn't change that.

16

u/Sir_Stash 9d ago

There were a few SNES games that went for $70 in the 90's. Not a lot, but a few.

Console prices have soared, but games have stayed static in their retail prices. Complaining over a highly anticipated game costing $10 more than the typical game doesn't make sense to me.

13

u/BarbaraBeans 9d ago

I spent months cutting grass to buy Bubsy for $75 from Toys R Us. It was lame and I forced myself to like it. I don't wanna hear shit from you Rugrats.

u/Scorp63 9d ago

They politely made their own decision regarding their finances and what's important to them, as an individual, when buying a video game.

The only thing "dumb" about that is you going off into a full analytical discourse on the economy and inflation to disagree with them.

1

u/Moser319 9d ago

yo shut up don't give people ideas

19

u/ianmademedoit 9d ago

You’re gonna miss out for a $10 difference? Pick your battles, friend

3

u/Tsukemono30101 9d ago

In some retail stores, in germany atleast, you can get your self a copy for 60€. Thats why i drove to the next MediaMarkt and bought one. 70€ are just to much to justifiy for me at the Moment.

Good for you. It’s $89 in Canada and I’ve made the same choice. I’ll play it when it goes on sale in a few years.

for me was when i found out the weapon breaking mechanic was still in the game.

BoTW was a great game that i couldn't be arsed to finish because that kept pissing me off so much.

3

u/kintorkaba 9d ago

They kinda-sorta fixed it, not just mechanically but in terms of how the whole game feels aesthetically.

Mechanically you have a new "fuse" power that allows you to strap items and weapons onto each other. This has the added benefit of, in some cases, transferring all durability damage to the attached weapon/item. This allows you to keep your base weapon, if you take care of it and remember to swap out when the attached item breaks. It also means you can turn regular swords or sticks into axes, hammers, etc, just by sticking rocks and other items to the end of them.

Aesthetically all the powers work together to create a really improvised feel to everything. Where in BotW, I just felt like... "Why do all my swords keep breaking oh my god can I just get a good iconic weapon like it's a fucking zelda game?!" ... in TotK, it's more like "Scavenger Link is a fucking badass, I glued a flamethrower on my sword."

I absolutely HATED it in BotW, but in this one it feels... right. BotW forced you to play like a scavenger, but its mechanics didn't really justify it. With TotK it feels like they've finally justified the scavenger playstyle for this version of Link... maybe even made it iconic for this iteration.

1

u/itswatev 9d ago

I mean, fuse is cool and all, but honestly breaking a cool fused weapon I had feels even worse now IMO. I think it feels exactly the same, except now I'm just losing a weapon + an item I fused to it..

1

u/Raghav511 9d ago

Just make a new one lmao

-2

u/Ike_Gamesmith 9d ago

Or, because it's actually good, it will be a new standard that other games need to meet to price at $70, and force the quality of games up

2

u/csb249 9d ago

In the current gaming climate if we can't support tears of the kingdom I don't know what we can support.

-1

u/sinner_peter 9d ago

You can get this game for free.

0

u/Moser319 9d ago

Your choice, but i've put 80 hours into it and there's still tons of game left to do.

-7

u/Secure-Shoulder4508 9d ago

Cool cool. 10 million+ already decided to do the opposite. So I guess, keep up the good fight?

First time? Most games used to be $50

Edit:downvoted for stating facts. Softer than baby shit.

-6

u/Sirromnad 9d ago

I hate to break this to you but $70 for flagship and triple A titles is not the future, but the present.

-9

u/LittleMistake1052 9d ago

Dude r u stupid 70 bucks is totally worth a game of this quality you cheap shit.

I have 6 hearts. 2 whole stamina rings. Beat the rito storm arc quest. 30+ hrs. I don't know what's going on, but I'm having a blast. Got lost under hyrule castle. Forgot I could ascend my way out😅

16

u/MajinBuuMan 9d ago

That has to be my favorite ability.

Entering a random cave then just ascending out to a random ass place in the world. Sometimes on top of a mountain.

7

u/temujinbk 9d ago

This morning I entered a well, immediately got surrounded by monsters, and beamed my way to safety. I love that they built a cheat into the game.

1

u/SethTheWarrior 9d ago

well i mean basically all 4 abilities let you cheat in different scenarios

recall can trivialize several shrines if paired with ultrahand properly

→ More replies (1)

2

u/Notalurkeripromise 8d ago

I wandered around the depths for like an hour and found a spot to ascend out of, came out of the ground in the middle of an enemy stronghold. Had a good laugh cuz it had that record scratch vibe real hard

4

u/Faroshious 9d ago

I have around 70 hours, but I’m free all the time

2

u/SirDunkMcNugget 9d ago

When I first got to the Depths, I didn't know you could just fast travel out. I was looking for places to ascend for like an hour before I googled it lol

16

u/booksandmints 9d ago

Too many, and I’m still squishy because I keep thinking “ooh, what’s over there?” instead of doing any quests or concentrating on shrines!

::edit:: forgot a word!

6

u/mollekake_reddit 9d ago

They really nailed that part of the game. Botw was not as explorative and inviting. Makes the world seem littered with quests and mysteries.

6

u/booksandmints 9d ago

I think they did too. I love the addition of caves and wells for the extra exploration, plus it’s always cool to ascend really high up a mountain from a deep cave!

3

u/mollekake_reddit 9d ago

Absolutely agree! I love jumping from the highest spots all the way down to the underground.

2

u/booksandmints 9d ago

Especially if you can catch sticky lizards on the way down!

19

u/psyduck_hug 9d ago

125 hours, I am semiretired, kid in college, totk all day long.

4

u/Raghav511 9d ago

Living the life man

2

u/skavenrot 7d ago

That’s my dream one day, good for you.

1

u/archstrange 8d ago

God bless. The correct term is "pretired."

4

u/Muskandar 9d ago

0, have decided to wait until I feel like playing a large game. Don’t have the motivation right now.

3

u/Qiel183 Switch 9d ago

0, haven't gotten it yet(next week I will)

3

u/jrnitc 9d ago

How many hours are in two weeks? That many.

6

u/myshon 9d ago

5-6h and had to stop playingit it

Don't know why, but I have no fun playing it. Even tho I absolutely loved BOTW.

4

u/monsoonsilk 9d ago

Have you gotten off of the sky Islands and began exploring the new over world?

2

u/myshon 9d ago

Yeah. I unlocked glider and did couple of shrines and towers in the open world.

9

u/OrganicPHunk 9d ago

I freaking love zelda games

3

u/crono14 9d ago

0 here

3

u/Hsensei 9d ago

Zero, never played the first one either. Made a profile on the switch and haven't honestly touched it since. Let's go evee edition too

4

u/bonecollector5 9d ago

Had an whole week off after release. So I’m well over 100 at this point.

4

u/Sonneteer1 9d ago
  1. Haven't purchased the game :).

4

u/-BroncosForever- 9d ago

I put in over 80 hours in the first 7 days.

I literally had to stop myself, because this game was just consuming my life.

One day I played it 14 hours straight and it felt like 3 lol

Game came and a complete low point in my life- and has actually made me significantly happier because I could just tune out all of the bullshit in my life for a week straight

This game so damn good that it made me slightly less depressed.

3

u/[deleted] 9d ago

About 5 hours. Simply being I just didn’t enjoy the game. Objectively I think the game makes some awesome technical leaps, especially with how the physics work. However… as someone who sunk a good 500 hours into Breath of the Wild… I don’t know, I guess I didn’t really click with it?

It bugged me that as soon as I reached Hyrule everything just looked a bit samey. Obviously same graphics, lots of the same reused sounds and ambient music in some cases. I got to the Purah lookout part and just put it down, I just don’t think I could really go through another 100 hours minimum journey through a similar looking/feeling adventure.

However, don’t get the wrong idea. Just because I do not like this game, does not mean others aren’t allowed to like it. In fact, I’m extremely happy people find the game attractive and fun to play. I’m ecstatic that Nintendo pulled off another big success, and I’m happy to have supported them with my purchase all the same. :)

u/Academic_Priority_20 9d ago

Like 2 hours, work and family is overrated haha.

2

u/DarkP88 9d ago

Like 10 hours? I'm sorry but I also need to work and rest.

1

u/Chupacabras5150 9d ago

I’m on the same boar

2

u/MilenaShadow 9d ago

I'm hundred and something hours in completed most of the main quests so now I'm working on finishing collecting hearts and stamina and side quests before completing the game.

3

u/Environmental_Slip28 9d ago

Im like 30+ hours in having a blast!

2

u/FuzzyRelations 9d ago

I'm sitting at around 70 hours and only just now completed my second dungeon. There's so much to do.

2

u/DarthEwok42 9d ago

115, and I havent even seen the fish people yet!

2

u/Shatterbrained_ 9d ago

0 hopefully I get it sometime soon :/

2

u/Randomuser918 9d ago

I been considering buying a switch just for Zelda but I have so much shit going on I don't even play my Xbox.

2

u/Shatterbrained_ 9d ago

I hear the new ones really good I can say from experience that breath of the wild is amazing

2

u/Mercys_Angel 9d ago

50 hours. Beat the main story and a couple big side quests. I don’t really have much interest in continuing to play more but I’m happy with the time I had with the game

2

u/UnendingHorniness 9d ago

None.I don't have switch or another network device.

2

u/Plebecide 9d ago

0, all the fortnite car building nonsense I've seen really turned me off from buying it

2

u/Sushisource 9d ago

FYI I was worried about that as well and it is not terribly pervasive in the game. So far the only times you really need to use it are at the beginning of the game when they show you how, and in some shrines. It's really not as important as media you've seen maybe make it look.

Having a blast with the game.

2

u/Stephen501 9d ago

100% felt same as this. Don’t really care about building but I got it as a gift and you can play 90/95% of the game without bothering with the whole building thing. Finding it Vgood so far.

-1

u/ianmademedoit 9d ago

PC? Blasphemy

1

u/MajinBuuMan 9d ago

15 hours so far for me.

Did the Goron temple and I'm making my way to the bird people temple.

All my free gaming time is going exclusively to Zelda lol.

4

u/greyghost5000 9d ago

I ended up doing the Wind Temple before the Fire Temple and boy, the Fire Temple was almost too easy in comparison. Ymmv, maybe I just suck at paragliding lol

1

u/Faroshious 9d ago

Do the Gerudo before, out of all 4 that was my favorite, but that might be because I did it first.

0, I don't have the game yet. Heck I don't even have breath of the wild.

1

u/ianmademedoit 9d ago

More than you! 5 hearts? Those are rookie numbers

2

u/Chupacabras5150 9d ago

Hahaha! Been gaming all morning! I got 2 more hearts and more stamina

1

u/Vipor-Z 9d ago

Zero

1

u/Wraith_Rayne1369 9d ago

That would be a HUGE 0 hours, 0 minutes and 0 seconds. Honestly didnt really catch my interest, always loved my LoZ games but BoTW and this one kinda just fell off the mark for me. Hope you all are truly enjoying the experience though.

1

u/DrDyngbeng 9d ago

Like 3. Don't really get the hype. I miss Four Swords

-6

u/al3ch316 9d ago

About half an hour. I then turned my kid's Switch off because the game looks like shit and I was bored.

These newer Zeldas just don't do it for me. Not even remotely.

5

u/jurox51887 9d ago

Me playing link's awakening and a link between worlds 💪🏻

4

u/EminentTrout 9d ago

I really miss the older Zelda games. The open world of botw made it feel like a completely different game and I wasn’t crazy about it.

Fell off it after my first couple weeks playing. Haven't touched it in over a week now. Didn't find it particularly compelling.

1

u/CosmicAccident96 9d ago

It's literally been out 2 weeks today

-6

u/SentryGamer42 9d ago

About 10 and then got super bored because it's the same thing over and over again with a shoestring narrative.

3

u/sugmamale69420 9d ago

what exactly is "the same thing over and over"?

2

u/-csephus- 8d ago edited 8d ago

Over 150 shrines, the same number of roots down below, all replay the same activation animation and music. 900 korok seeds. A tower for every region with the exact same activation animation and music. Tons of that sign dude. Enemy encounters copy & pasted across the map. Tons of wells. Tons of cave systems that end with those glowing lizards. Collectible memories are back with the same activation animation and music.

I'm many hours in and am having a net positive experience, but there will never be a case that this gameplay loop doesn't repeat almost everything at least a dozen times.

0

u/sugmamale69420 8d ago

You can skip animations, and you're not required to do any shrines after the great plateau.

I understand, that if you want more hearts and stamina you need to do shrines, but that's the price you pay for this overworld because it's different than other Zelda games where you get hearts mainly from completing temples

1

u/Chehzy 9d ago

It's an open world game, what do you expect

0

u/Gdterrible 9d ago

0 hours, still doing botw

-11

u/SentryGamer42 9d ago

About 10 and then got super bored because it's the same thing over and over again with a shoestring narrative.

0

u/Wolfram_And_Hart 9d ago

I’ve been letting the kiddo get a good head start

0

u/JonnyKaiju 9d ago

Installed it and haven't even launched it yet. Maybe this weekend.

0

u/Jampine 9d ago

Too many, but been working normal hours still.

I've done 3 of the town quests, have a full line of hearts and 2 1/5 stamina wheels, and just found the master sword.

Still hunting armour peices, I want to try and find the knight armour again, liked the look, but I also appreciate bits simply effect of just having really good defence.

0

u/King_Artis PlayStation 9d ago

After last night about 37 if the counter on the switch is accurate. Only game I've really played since launch and I really haven't done any main quest after getting the glider

0

u/FallAltruistic721 9d ago

O, still on XC3 dlc 🤩

0

u/JediMastee 9d ago

20 I expected to be done by now but work is kicking my ass

0

u/Professional_Big_387 9d ago

60, but I share a switch with one other person.

0

u/anhedonis539 9d ago

Somewhere in the 60-65 range!

0

u/SpareNovel7322 9d ago

45 and it feels like I have so much to discover yet

0

u/AweJosh 9d ago

About 65 hours in

0

u/JhymnMusic 9d ago

not much. just beat first temple. its fine.. definitely feels like its being crippled by the switch

0

u/Supermichael777 9d ago

I calculated it at 120 when I finished Monday

0

u/DumpsterDiverBill473 9d ago

I got so addicted to this game on the weekends and spent 115 hours playing it so far. I’m also in high school so I have barely anytime to play other then weekends.

0

u/sugmamale69420 9d ago
  1. I just murder monsters and grind shrines. Level 4 on all enemies (silver and level IV of constructs), 19 heart, 5 stamina upgrades (2 rings)

0

u/WuzHadninMayne 9d ago

50+, sure don’t feel like it

0

u/Logical-Asparagus-75 9d ago

Maybe 5 lol this last month has been insane barely had anytime to play.

0

u/SulferAddict 9d ago

I’m at 100+ which is pretty insane. Luckily I’m off work

0

u/bossbang 9d ago

120 hours and I've never been this invested in a brand new game before, Skyrim included

0

u/The_Alvabro 9d ago

"65 or more" is what my Switch shows

0

u/ZenMarduk 9d ago

75 hours right now.

0

-2

u/AlternativeWillow358 9d ago
  1. I can't justify buying a switch for just one game. Might buy it if I can borrow one tho

-6

u/Overall-Ad5539 9d ago

Not a fan of Zelda games. Seems to be for kids.

2

u/sakipooh 9d ago

Like you've never played a Mario game because it's cartoonish and colorful? How about Mario kart? What is an adult video game? Only games rated M for mature? Does a title need gratuitous violence and blood?

I'm just genuinely curious as I bet I'm far older than you (with a house, wife and kid) and we still all enjoy the crap out of all these games. The wife has her own Switch and copy of TOTK and even my 65 year old mother has her own with probably more hours in this game than me as she's retired.

-2

u/Overall-Ad5539 9d ago

You do you prince.

2

u/sakipooh 9d ago

I’m not trying to convert you…I want to understand. What games do you play? Maybe you have a misconception about this game. There have been games that I thought I wouldn’t like and they turned out pretty great.

1

u/HHcougar 9d ago

seems to be for kids

Just cause the game isn't rendered on a 4080ipx XTreme deluxxxe graphics card with photo realistic graphics, doesn't mean the game is for kids.

It's brutally difficult, and has really challenging puzzles.

I could never have played it as a kid.

50 hours, I've been way to tired the past week. Will finish it before Diablo 4 hopefully. if not it will have to wait until after.

1

u/BruinThrowaway2140 9d ago

90+ according to my Switch 😮‍💨

1

u/LoyalScribeJonathan 9d ago

None. I didn't care for BoTW. Honestly, I wish they'd go back to the old linear, upgrades, non breakable sword Zelda.

1

u/Moser319 9d ago

80 hours or more

u/Chehzy 9d ago

Hmm let me count... 0 hours 0 minutes and 0 seconds

1

u/KadeWad3 9d ago

About 30 hours so far…..gonna make that 300!

1

u/Ebolatastic 9d ago

200 hours and in pretty freaking annoyed with how much content in the game has rupees as a reward. Full blown quest chains that take hours - 100 rupees. I've 100% breath of the wild like 3 times - I don't know if I'll ever 100% this it has an ungodly amount of cut/copy/paste filler - maybe 10x as much as the last game.

1

u/ColdNo4038 9d ago

Zero😎… because it can’t afford it

1

u/Fillyphan11 9d ago

0 and I've owned it since day one. I like the hype to keep building.

1

u/Gloomy-Ad-1291 9d ago

I got 70+ and barely any main quests

1

u/trynworkharder 9d ago

1

u/Mar600321069 9d ago

None (I don't have a switch)

1

u/monsoonsilk 9d ago

70, according to my switch, but I feel like it's closer to 85/90.
