MGS3 does actually take account of this. After Snake looses that eye, in first person mode, the right third of the screen is blacked out and his aim for weapons is shifted slightly to the left.

When they ported it to the 3ds, the 3d function was disabled after you lose the eye.

It's was out for the 3DS? May have a look for it.

It's literally the only 3ds game I own and I borrow my girlfriend's 3ds to play it

With a circle pad attachment it's one of the best games on 3DS. Crouch walking is so good.

Holy detail

MGS3 is full of details like this. There is a boss that you can kill in multiple ways. Like you can physically restart your PS2 and advance the system clock by 1 week and he will die of old age. You can snipe him early in the game and skip the fight entirely.

You just spoiled it.

The game is like 20 years old

If you haven't played such a masterpiece that's on you.

New response just dropped

I just noticed this model also has the skintight "angry eyebrows" bandanna thing going on as what was shown for the remake.

That has literally been a thing for over 20 years and all the casuals are going wild about it all of the sudden.

He's right handed and loses his right eye, so I'm sure it was a big adjustment. It's really hard to aim through your left eye while holding right handed, so maybe he's doing muscle memory/ aiming his left eye on a certain point of his gun or target as a reference point based off all the experience he has using a gun

In MGS 3, when he loses the eye, he still sets his sights directly in the middle of the screen in first person. This implies he's cross dominant (right handed, uses left eye to aim).

I actually love that the right side of first person reflects him having the eye missing with a lack of peripheral vision.

u/rattlehead42069 9d ago

So then that's probably exactly it, he used his left eye as a reference point and with years of experience knows where to aim using his left eye while right handed

This is me. I’m a lefty writer but shoot righty. I have to have both eyes open and make sure my right sets up where the left looks.

Uh that is not how aiming works

8

u/Baliskner_Haeron 9d ago

It's muscle memory and takes a couple more games for him to overcome it. But he does start holding pistols to his left more

u/RQK1996 9d ago

Handedness doesn't correlate to eyesness, your dominant eye can be not a match to your dominant eye, like right handed but left eyed

4

u/Electric_Wizard84 9d ago

This part. I shoot pistols right handed, aim with my left. I shoot rifles lefty, and get weird looks from other people at the range.

Idk it works for me.

3

u/rattlehead42069 9d ago

Yes, but snake here is clearly shooting right handed with his rifle.

3

u/rattlehead42069 9d ago

That's correct, but try aiming with your left eye while holding a gun right handed. It's very hard to do. And most people will just use long arms (like rifles) left handed if this is the case because it's not a hard adjustment. Handguns on the other hand are a little harder

By the time of MGSV he have overcome that and aims by the left eye while still being right handed.

This meme is hilarious but I'm pretty sure in-context he wasn't actually aiming down the sights, he was just keeping his gun trained on something while looking at it. It's been a few years since I played Peace Walker but could have sworn this is just an "ha out of context this looks hilarious" image

If people are wondering the game is MGS Peacwalker. Great game btw.

4

u/thepeopleshero 9d ago

I'm team muscle memory, those rounds are going exactly where he intends them to go.

Lol, after many play throughs I just realized this :) ..

His eyepatch is actually made from the same material as the decals on the mcdonalds windows, opaque on one side and completely see through on the other. He can see clear as day and still trick us into thinking its a plot hole

This is not canon)

(Obviously)

Lmfao that's a classic right there.

-5

u/SjurEido 9d ago

This is absolutely intentional and completely explained. How annoying can you be, /u/Madougatee ?

1

u/taishiea 9d ago

or maybe he has spent so long using the one eye he knows it is straight on up to ? meters

1

u/East-Chemical4957 9d ago

Unless you look in the Sky in Metal Gear Solid Sons Of Liberty/Substance

1

u/TreePorcupine 9d ago

It’s his muscle memory / training. He’s still a killing machine

1

u/tekgeekster 9d ago

They don't call him "Big Boss" for nothing.

1

u/TJzzz 9d ago

Muscle memory > sight

1

u/Daedolis 9d ago

He can still be point shooting, which is still fairly accurate.

1

u/DogFacedManboy 8d ago

He usually just aims in third-person so it’s fine

1

u/GT4242_42 8d ago

i really love how in MGS5 a lot of the sights on the guns have raisers to make it easier for snake to fire with his right hand and aim with his left eye (or it was a completely unintentional detail that im just looking to hard into)

What's more, you get see this animation in Peacewalker before every boss fight (APC, Tanks, Helis, Metal GEAR). Good luck beating them with only an M16
