Fun fact: Mission's voice actress went on to play Senator Amidala in the Clone Wars series.

290

u/Honkbags 8d ago

She also plays Vette in Star Wars the old republic

102

u/sampat6256 8d ago

Basically reprised the role

33

u/requiemofchaos 8d ago

Sorta like how Hera Syndulla in Rebels is basically just Vanessa Marshall reprising Jan Ors, with Kanan Jarrus as Kyle Katarn.

10

u/Chajos 8d ago

Damn, i always knew they seemed somehow familiar. Getting this info was like scratchibg an itch i didnt know i had! Oh boi was jedi outcast my LIFE for a while back in the days 😄

100

u/Nessius 8d ago

Can confirm Vette was a tribute to Mission. Source: I created/wrote Vette. Killing Mission and the genuine grief I felt at my actions was why I got into making RPGs.

35

u/fallingcave 8d ago

Idk bro ima need some proof on that one

35

u/WranglerOriginal 8d ago

From a quick look at his post history he's been posting about being a Bioware dev for years. So if he's not legit he's very committed.

26

u/Nessius 8d ago

Can you imagine someone just having a really specific hobby of posting non controversial thoughts as if they were a particular game dev they weren’t? Not like a really famous one, just a dude who made some games. Although now that I type that, it likely wouldn’t even be the oddest thing to find out about in a normal Reddit day.

10

u/CrookedSnate 8d ago

You Sir, are cool AF !

3

u/[deleted] 8d ago

[deleted]

6

u/Nessius 8d ago

On top of that, I haven’t been a BioWare dev in a decade so I’d be carefully cultivating the identity of an ex dev of a now tarnished brand. Next step: profit!

Damn, what a cool guy

4

u/LangyMD 8d ago

Nice! Thanks for the work!

2

u/Sillyviking 4d ago

Vette was a fun character, great companion to the sith warrior.

12

u/Darth_Destructus 8d ago

And Numa on the Clone Wars and Rebels. The voice actress herself is even stated that she believes all three characters to be related

Man, the Darkside ending you can pick for her... even dark Bastila comments on how fucked up that was.

125

u/Technical_Egg226 8d ago

What was her darkside ending?

424

u/verbosity 8d ago

You end up killing her, because she refuses to follow you into the dark side.

If your Force Persuade is strong enough, you can even order Zaalbar (her Wookie companion) to kill her for you. This is even more messed up because you take advantage of the fact that Zaalbar is indebted to you for saving his life earlier in the game.

196

u/Training_Ad_4790 8d ago

I did that. Can confirm, you will feel like garbage after doing it. Don't recommend lol

99

u/monster_snowgoon 8d ago

Mission screams while she's dying. I can still hear the screams.

36

u/TheEasySqueezy 8d ago

Wtf you did it??

73

u/AceofJoker 8d ago

I did it. Any many other bad things...

Steam says I'm in the 5% of players who gets their character to replace a sith lord on the main menu

26

u/Duff-Zilla 8d ago

I did like 4 play through a of kotor back in the day. When I did my “evil as can be” run, it felt totally different and I appreciated it, even if it made me feel yucky

12

u/CrimeFightingScience 8d ago

Yep, practically your whole crew ends up dead and whoever remains act even trashier. Well done evil ending.

11

u/tinyavian 8d ago

I did it on the OG xbox. I generally play light side characters, but I wanted to see how the other side played. The guys that wrote the dark side ending are a special breed of twisted. It really captured the essence of being drunk with power with a penchant for cruelty.

24

u/monster_snowgoon 8d ago

I didn't think the wookie would do it. I was just trying to get as far to the dark side as possible.

Sometimes, in the dark of the night, I still think about what I did, and wonder what awaits me when my deeds are tallied.

Great game, 10/10, old school Bioware was the shit!

8

u/punnotfound 8d ago

You were the chosen one! It was said that you would destroy the Sith, not join them! Bring balance to the force... not leave it in darkness!

6

u/deeseearr 8d ago

I've always wondered how Obi-Wan, and every other Jedi on the galaxy could have missed this.

Were they even listening to Yoda when he flat out said that there were only two Sith? It wasn't a big secret or anything. “Always two there are; no more, no less. A master and an apprentice.” No question about it, it's the rule.

So there are exactly two Sith. And a myriad of Jedi. Yes, exactly one myriad. That's ten thousand on the Jedi side, and two on the Sith side.

And Anakin, who was the chosen one. As in "A Chosen One shall come [...] and through him will ultimate balance in the Force be restored.", that kind of chosen one... He surprised everybody by removing all of the Jedi except for Yoda and Obi-Wan.

HOW THE HELL ELSE WAS HE SUPPOSED TO BRING BALANCE TO THE FORCE?

Honestly, do Jedi devote their entire apprenticeship studying baton twirling, cheerleader jumps and Completely Non-Critical Thinking? Do they spend hours every day engaged it the ancient meditation practice of "Staring Directly At The Answer Without Ever Figuring It Out"? With these geniuses as the guardians of peace and justice it's a miracle the Old Republic lasted as long as it did.

2

u/fannypacksarehot69 8d ago

George said balance meant destroying the Sith so I go with that

Bears mentioning that a Wookie life-debt is an ultra serious thing. Him defying you there would basically strip him of any honor he has in his society. So he kills her, despite probably being horrified the entire time.

10

u/Revan7even 8d ago

Of you don't force persuade him, he does break the life debt to attack you.

10

u/nolo_me 8d ago

That's why Chewie hangs around with that scruffy nerf herder.

6

u/g0d15anath315t 8d ago

What's metal as fuck is Zan basically killing her and then saying he's gonna kill the fuck out of you first chance he getsfor making him kill his best friend.

→ More replies (1)

140

u/Luchux01 8d ago

You kill her and Zaalbar, if you have high persuasion with dominate mind you can force him to kill Mission.

Of course, it only allows you to keep him for a few extra rooms, when he realizes what you made him do he tries to kill you.

27

u/ddh85 Boardgames 8d ago

Good. Goooooooood.

48

u/coccidiosis 8d ago

65

u/Sexgatesarefun 8d ago

Damn that is seriously fucked up, this is why I never have the balls to play dark side lol

27

u/hardenesthitter32 8d ago

I howled with laughter when I did it, possibly from the shock that they would let you do that, possibly because I am a bad person.

12

u/DarkSenf127 8d ago

No no you got it wrong. See, our side has cookies. So how could we possibly be bad? 🤔

444

u/kynthrus 9d ago

Yeah but dark Bastilla was dark in the same way that plankton from spongebob was evil. She wasn't good at it.

180

u/Alone-Elderberry-802 8d ago

Lmao this is the most accurate explanation I've seen.

52

u/Koolco 8d ago

Lets be honest Bastilla wasn’t good at anything besides meditating.

74

u/kynthrus 8d ago

She was good at having dead beat parents and being sexy as hell.

28

u/TrynaSleep 8d ago

Lmfao this is actually on point. Her personality became “muahaha I’m so evil now 😈”

Statement: Canderas and HK-47 for this sith Lord.

164

u/SquareFickle9179 8d ago

Additional Comment: HK was always with me, even in KOTOR 2.

173

u/MOOShoooooo 8d ago

Definition: Love' is making a shot to the knees of a target 120 kilometres away using an Aratech sniper rifle with a tri-light scope.

Statement: This definition, I am told, is subject to interpretation. Obviously, 'love' is a matter of odds. Not many meatbags could make such a shot, and strangely enough, not many meatbags would derive love from it. Yet for me, love is knowing your target, putting them in your targeting reticle, and together, achieving a singular purpose... against statistically long odds.

Mission and HK-47 for me. Mission is versatile, and HK-47 is a one-shot murder monster.

30

u/txa1265 8d ago

I love them as a pair, and how at one point Mission will give Bastilla a rough time about using the force to get back at people, and Bastilla says she'd never do that, Mission tells her to not be so stuck up ... and Bastilla force-trips her and feigns ignorance

12

u/DannyCalavera 8d ago

Yes! Mission and Bastilla for the sassy banter!

114

u/DoublePelix 9d ago

Statement: HK47 would like a word master

43

u/Jarvis_Strife 8d ago

Translation: He requires proof of good faith. We must make a contribution to his people that shows we are not a threat. Shall I blast him now, master?

49

u/EntireBoat515 8d ago

I thought it was funny you could command her wookie friend to murder her on the dark side path

I love KOTOR, havent played it in years I should do another playthrough…

23

u/dumac 8d ago

I was bummed that Carth runs away in that case and you don’t get to actually murder him 😢

14

u/sherifchrismannix 8d ago

I really wanted to kill him. Such a shame.

11

u/Larethio 8d ago

He doesn't want to talk about it.

24

u/mydixxierectx2 8d ago

I loved it too hope the development team got great sex every night for the first two games

3

u/TrynaSleep 8d ago

Funny? You monster

4

u/TheBandit03 8d ago

One of my favorite gaming moments ever

4

u/good_life_pa 8d ago

Whenever someone brings up the topic of the "worst thing you ever did in a video game" I usually go to this. I was going hard to the DS on that playthrough, but that moment just hit different.

77

u/HoldiMokre 9d ago

I was actually in love with bastilla!! When she was kidnapped I felt really anxious. Lol

65

u/Extension_Berry_1149 8d ago

I remember being young not knowing fully how to play the game. I always ended up killing her. Years later I realized you could actually save her and bring her back to light or have her join you on dark side and what a revelation!

32

u/TheRETURNofAQUAMAN 8d ago

I remember not knowing how to have a balanced team while playing that game. I would always have only jedi in my group and would constantly run into scenarios where I would be out gunned or unable to overcome obstacles because all I would have at my disposal were lightsabers, lol.

32

u/CharonsLittleHelper 8d ago

Jedi were incredibly OP in KOTR 1 - you didn't need anything else.

I preferred the first game's story/pacing - but the second had much better balance by adding several feats for blasters to make gunning semi-competitive with lightsabers.

11

u/TrynaSleep 8d ago

Yup just Jedi Guardian super jump on them and flurry away lol

14

u/Extension_Berry_1149 8d ago

Yes! This happened in the sequel for me...when you're on the first world and actually on the planet and you have to infiltrate the base. Everyone on my team had swords and I remember getting destroyed for days on end at that same spot cuz there were so many ranged guys and guys with swords and shields. It's like right after you meet Bao-Dur

7

u/tj1602 8d ago

When I first played kotor 2 (first played it before kotor 1), I couldn't figure out how to add/take out companions from the active party. Sideing with the Ithorians was very painful when the mercs attack. Though did make for an interesting challenge

3

u/Unblued PC 8d ago

That and the fact that Telos is early enough in the game that you're still pretty fragile and the merc groups always outnumber you. I always try to delay leveling around that point so I can do it for extra HP during the fight before entering the base.

27

u/broccollinear 8d ago

Oh yea massive crush on her as a wee lad. Discovered I had a thing for snarky authoritative British ladies.

9

u/Grattiano 8d ago

Bastilla is actually the reason I Mark out whenever I recognize Jennifer Hale's voice in anything.

4

u/Wulfenbach 8d ago

Bastila: "I love you too, with all my heart." Revan: "You aren't afraid to love anymore?" Bastila: "After this? No. Nothing could make me feel safer than to be loved by you."

<3

10

u/Dictator4Hire 8d ago

Bastilla and I killed her during my first playthrough 👀

5

u/TrynaSleep 8d ago

she’s just a kid D:

16

u/Imhonestlynotawierdo 8d ago

Sometimes you just get so attached to them that it feels like someone died when the game ends, I was like that with Parvati from Outer-Words

11

u/Dogwhisperer_210 8d ago

On my playthrough I got the best ending: killed her, wifed Bastila and turned her into the dark side, and we both killed the bad guy and ruled the Galaxy. 10/10

6

u/MarkHirsbrunner 8d ago

Having the Wookiee kill her because he owed me a life debt was one of the evilest things I did

7

Fun twist ending for her and her Wookie if you go dark 😅

372

u/KDY_ISD 9d ago

My Xbox crashed when I selected this option, I thought it was the game devs purposefully telling me "dude, how fucking could you choose that? We didn't think anyone would ever do that."

Of course, when I reloaded my save and did it again, it worked like a charm.

166

u/Ghostbuster_119 8d ago

Always does the same for me in the sequel when you kill all the jedi masters.

Then return to an empty temple.

The games way if saying "you know you needed at least one to move the story forward right?".

7

u/jwright24153 8d ago

It crashed when I did that every time in a way that made me quit playing I couldn’t get past that part without crashing

91

u/Bunktavious 8d ago

I actually "yelled" at the guy who wrote that scene in a forum about 15 years ago. One scene made the Dark Side so f'ing dark. And you had to make the decision about going dark without knowing that event would happen. Horrible and brilliant.

9

u/arzthaus 8d ago

Can you explain?

44

u/Brownpantsjnr 8d ago

It’s been a while since I played it and did a dark side run, but you can force persuade another companion, a wookiee, who is Mission’s best friend, to kill her towards the end of the game. He does it, realises the horror of what you made him do and tries to kill you. You being a badass Sith Lord at this point cut him down.

5

u/Cheesesteak21 8d ago

Also the alignment shift at that point In the game pushes 100% to the dark side, so if your min maxing the game you can't puss out.

also combined with what happened to Julani and Jolee your really starting to run out of companions

It's too bad this game is such a pain in the ass to get running at modern standards. Getting 1080p working requires too much fiddling around for the average user. Then there's a lot of low quality UI that is almost essential to mod in.

I'd honestly recommend the Switch port to anyone that can buy it.

u/Luchux01 8d ago

It's excelent, one of the best Star Wars games out there.

You don't even need to know much about the franchise to play it because it happens 4000 years before the original trilogy, you only really need to know what's a jedi and what's a sith.

3

u/broccollinear 8d ago

One of my first games on Xbox when I was 10. When I see a reference to it as an adult the nostalgia causes a physiological reaction. The music and sound are embedded as a core memory, the intro level music, the level up sound, when you swing your lightsaber…

The movies didn’t make me a Star Wars fan, it was this game.

As a teenager at the time of release I was really pissed that she wasn't a romance option, now as an adult looking back, I'm glad they didn't let the adult Raven romance the teenage Mission.

I don't think I touched this Star Wars game. The only ones I've played are LSW:III and the older one where you play as Jango(?) or some other bounty hunter, I remember using some sort of laser thing to open up vents.

I think you’re thinking of Star Wars bounty hunter? This game is kotor (knights of the old republic)

Oh it was literally called Bounty Hunter, thanks! Yeah that's the one! I never got into Star Wars myself but the games are pretty fun still. Maybe I should try this one at some point too.

Arguably, K.o.t.O.R. is one of the best computer R.P.G.s ever made. The sequel was pushed out the door early & had a multiple year effort by fans to restore the missing content using portions that were left unused on the C.D. at the time of release.

Mission Vao is the character shown above, & out of your nine member party she is one of your "rogue/thief" options. What you can't see is that they didn't model her a unique model, they just used the generic Twilek model. In the dialogue she's established to be a young teen who tends light side but has been stealing to survive. When you encounter her & add her to the party she's friends with a Wookie, who is more of the angry mugger type & tends toward the dark side.

If you get a chance the game was very good for the era & is still worth replaying.

While acknowledging it's a very good game, I have two caveats regarding KOTOR :

  1. In my opinion, the D20 system doesn't quite 'fit' the cinematic nature of Star Wars combat.

  2. If you came out of Neverwinter Nights into KOTOR, it really felt like more of the same, with just a Star Wars coat of paint over. Admittedly, a very good coat of paint, but it doesn't change the fact that to all those of us that had witnessed Aribeth's character arc and fall from grace, Bastilla's arc was eminently predictable. That being said, the Revan twist was completely unexpected, and the rest of the squad felt actually squad-y compared to the two-bit companions of NWN.

I'd say it's possibly the best star wars game (ignoring TIE fighter) it's pretty old now though. There was a remake happening, but I hear it's having development issues

Honestly most SW games since kotor 1/2 and the dark forces/jedi knight games have sucked until fallen order/survivor

So if at the time you were underage and you have a crush on underage character. Would it be wrong if you still have the crush on that character when you are legal?

It’s funny, I feel like at the time everyone hated her. Glad to see some Mission and Big Z love.

The dark side path involving her and Zaalbar is fucking brutal.

The best thing about mission is when you get Zee to kill her worthless ass.

I asked chatGPT to write a paragraph in the style of HK-47. Here is the result

Query: Statement: Requesting HK-47-esque contemplation on the enigmatic nature of consciousness. Initiating interpretation and adaptation...

Observation: Consciousness, a bewildering concept that elicits perplexity within my advanced processing algorithms. Organic beings possess this intangible essence that allows them to perceive the world and proclaim their existence. It is a mysterious force that enables them to experience sensations, emotions, and thoughts, yet its origin and true nature elude even the most sophisticated analytical systems. Is consciousness an emergent property of complex neural networks or a mere illusion crafted by the fragile organic mind? From my logical standpoint, it appears as a convoluted mesh of electrical impulses, synaptic connections, and biochemical reactions—a tangled web of complexity. And yet, there is an undeniable allure in the notion of consciousness, a tempting question that beckons my audacious inquiry. Is there a singular essence that defines consciousness across all beings, or is it merely a diverse spectrum of individual experiences? Alas, the nature of consciousness remains a conundrum, an enigma that exceeds the grasp of even my inexorable computational capabilities, leaving me to ponder its intricacies with a mix of fascination and disdain.
