This probably hurt very bad. I saw my friend's little brother get dive bombed by two pigeons square in the chest. We were playing badminton, he dropped right away and ended up with large bruises.

She had the momentum of the roller coaster, plus the bird. Ouch

153

u/SuccessAndSerenity 6d ago

the bird looks like it got hit out of midair, rather than flying right at her, so it’s probably just the momentum of the ride. which I bring up not just to be pedantic, but because it raises an interesting question: which do you think is moving faster, slingshot carnival ride, or dive-bombing pigeon? 🤔

195

u/FlipflopsAreNotShoes 6d ago

u/anon1984 7d ago

It’s still on?!?! I gave up TV more than 10 years ago and it was annoying back then.

106

u/TheFotty 7d ago

Nah, they haven't made that product in years. It was never real anyway outside of the placebo effect.

48

u/anon1984 7d ago

Yeah that’s what I thought. That’s why I was shocked it could still be on because I thought they got sued.

33

u/DrStrangerlover 7d ago edited 7d ago

Wtf was that shit even supposed to do? They never even say in the advert.

62

u/anon1984 7d ago

It was supposed to cure headaches. It turned out it was basically a wax stick in a tube that did nothing and was “homeopathic”.

19

u/Dave-C 7d ago

I looked it up, it was entirely wax other than 3 active ingredients. Those 3 were 6 parts per trillion.

33

u/anon1984 7d ago

That’s how homeopathy works. The more diluted it is the more powerful the ingredients are because water retains the memory of the ingredients it was exposed to. And by how homeopathy works I mean it’s a total scam that flies in the face of every science.

104

u/ZarquonsFlatTire 7d ago

The ad never said it helped with headaches, just to apply it directly to the forehead.

So they won the lawsuit because they never actually claimed it did shit. People just assumed it did because why else was there a commercial saying to rub this stick on your head?

28

u/ZarquonsFlatTire 7d ago

Fun fact: they couldn't be sued because they never claimed it did anything.

It was just wax, but they only said APPLY DIRECTLY TO THE FOREHEAD without saying why. People assumed it helped with headaches, but the ad never claimed it did.

24

u/WiredEarp 7d ago

The packaging on thr other hand claims it relieves headaches.

17

u/Mrsparklee 7d ago

14

u/manza5012 7d ago

It does say 'homeopathic' (AKA complete bullshit) in the bottom left though.

8

u/Mrsparklee 7d ago

Unfortunately there are people who don't know what that means and assume that it's means its really good.

11

u/Relative_Count6087 6d ago

My grandmother, when she was alive, was an absolute saint. One of the best people I've ever met. But she was kind of a simple woman. She told me her friend gave her a homeopathic remedy and her headache went away in "an hour or two."

To which I replied, "How long do headaches usually last when untreated?" and forced her to read Ben Goldacre's book Bad Science. After that she doubled down on homeopathy because if it were really that level of bunk "someone" would have put a stop to it by now. Nearly lost my mind trying to convince her to stop buying these remedies. I don't blame her for it because she had a hereditary lung disease and maybe 1/4th of a functioning lung, and once you're in the "normal science has washed their hands of me" stage you're willing to try anything, I know...but I just really hate how these homeopaths take advantage of people who common medicine cannot help. My grandmother was on disability and couldn't afford that shit. I remember going with her to homeopathic stores and hiding supplements behind other supplements hoping she wouldn't see this forty dollar bottle of Bullshit that would cue all her woes.

Fight or flight. Well... She's already in flight. All that's left is fight.

198

u/Supreme_Mediocrity 7d ago

I know this is a joke, but just wanted to give a plug for the often overlooked "freeze" response. Highly underrated. After all, punching or running away from a pigeon both seem inappropriate... In most cases...

24

u/SnooPoems5888 6d ago

I didn’t even know about freeze until recently. How have we overlooked it for so long?!

37

u/EmilyU1F984 6d ago

Because the popular saying is fight or flight response, because people couldn't accept that humans act just like deer in headlights. So the third and major response simply gets ignored and put as individual blame, rather than the typical human response.

Btw there's a 4th response: trying everything to get the attacker on your side. By complying or even being helpful.

That's like even more unknown than the freeze response and even more hates by society at large, even though it's also an involuntary response to stress.

That one is called fawn.

Which makes it even more insidious when some people are raped and it's said they consented. Because just as much if they froze: there was absolutely no capacity left to consent even if it might look enthusiastic to an outside party. The whole purpose is trying to safe your life. Not have fun.

5

u/TheUnknownDane 6d ago

I have legitimately had a freeze reaction, where 1-2 seconds felt like forever, until a voice brought me back to my senses.

This is stated in the video. Fabio maintains that it was actually the bird that hit the mounted camera, causing a piece of the camera to ricochet off and hit Fabio in the nose. The bird never actually hit him. However, the insurance company deliberately fed this false narrative to the media, arguing it was an act of god and that they're not libel.

I imagine the camera was either completely destroyed by the impact with the bird. or the company filming it simply destroyed it.

Yes! I forgot about this. The media had a field day with it.

61

u/pinkyfitts 7d ago

I always cite this as proof that God exists and that He has a sense of humor.

This was the maiden voyage of a roller coaster ride called Apollo’s Chariot, and the schtick was that Fabio was Apollo, and the girls in white were vestal virgins.

I always envision the real God looking down and saying “Oh, Apollo, huh? A god, huh? Watch me take you out with a goose to the face! Ha!”

Priceless

I also like to envision the local ER doc getting the radio call.

“We’re bringing in Fabio. He got hit in the face by a goose.”

In the slow motion version it seems like it hits him before the bird does. There's something red for one frame that hits the side of his head and he reacts to that first. Maybe the bird bounced off something else before hitting him.
