This is a pretty good indication the plant it came from has a virus. Plants use the chloroplasts to fight virus. These also help with the photosynthesis, and certain viroids can present in the form of mosaic patterns on the leaves.
This can be fought by removing the impacted part of the plant, or sometimes by helping enrich the soil the plant is in, kind of like how vitamin C helps boost our immune system.
