I can not imagine what the fear would have been like if I was driving and saw this.

u/KlausVonChiliPowder Dec 27 '20

I think a bomb would have been my last thought.

u/choff22 Dec 28 '20

Fuel hauler explosion is also plausible.

9

u/kfb85 Dec 28 '20

Fuel haulers are more likely to explode while loading than they are to blow up in a wreck or offloading product. Most of the time they'll burn, but don't explode. I haul fuel in Nashville.

2

u/Komitsuhari Dec 28 '20

I broker fuel around the US now. That would definitely be my nightmare.

"Nope!" Take the next exit and floor it in the other direction.

Notice how red the plume is. While it could be an optical effect due to the explosion fireball or the sunrise, I suspect that's real, and due to the bomber using ammonium nitrate for the explosive.

Dude was likely either buying fertilizer-grade ammonium nitrate from the local farmer's co-op, or buying tannerite in bulk. While I'm certainly redneck enough to appreciate the appeal of playing with this stuff a bit, buying those at the very least needs to land you on The List so the powers that be can start looking for other anomalous behaviors.

If a guy living in a duplex in urban Nashville buys a couple hundred pounds of ammonium nitrate or tannerite, there's a high probability he's not fertilizing a 5 acre field in his 4000 square foot lot, or trying to blow up a junk pickup truck in his back yard over beers with the boys.

u/Bananarine Dec 27 '20

Do we know anything about the bomber yet? Where they sourced anything or where they lived?

28

u/idontfrickinknowman Dec 27 '20

go look at @thetnholler on Instagram, they posted who the FBI thinks it is.

47

u/Bananarine Dec 27 '20

Thank you. Its great to hear they have a possible suspect, but I think we should not assume anything of anyone yet. Assumption before confirmation is how people get mistakenly labeled and harassed. (like the case for the Atlanta Olympic bombing).

29

u/eternaforest Dec 27 '20

Pretty sure they confirmed the suspect since their name is being circulated in news stories already.

Also they've all but confirmed the human remains they found were probably from the bomber from inside the RV.

I like The Holler for information to begin with, but some of the stuff they're sharing hasn't necessarily been confirmed by police though so keep that in mind when reading through their feed.

Thanks for clarifying, it’s been hard to follow since there’s so much unfolding quickly.

I thought since the OKC bombing they put you on that list for buying ammonium nitrate in bulk?

15

u/SubatomicGoblin Dec 27 '20

I know they did for a while, but he may have stockpiled it for years. I don't know how long it can be stored, though. Maybe indefinitely.

11

u/WhatImMike Dickson County Dec 27 '20

6 month shelf life per Google. He had to have bought it in just under the bulk limit, but even then multiple purchases would have flagged him unless he had help.

11

u/rvf Dec 27 '20

The ammonium nitrate from the explosion in Beirut had been sitting in that warehouse for six years, so just because it's old doesn't mean it's no longer explosive.

2

u/WillyTheDisk Dec 28 '20

I think in the case of the Beirut explosion, it got more volatile as it aged, although that may have been a result of how it was stored.

12

u/BoondockBilly Dec 27 '20

Prob made the list just searching for that. Thanks for your service.

7

u/SubatomicGoblin Dec 27 '20

Interesting to know. Yes, within those parameters it would seem difficult for one person to accumulate.

7

u/pegothejerk Dec 27 '20

It's unstable in large quantities, in less than perfect storage over time, that's what led to that massive downtown explosion earlier in the year overseas in Lebanon.

6

u/heretobefriends Dec 27 '20

Huh. Now today there is another suspicious truck pulled over in Lebanon.

Coincidence? Probably.

6

u/BradleyD1146 Dec 27 '20

Ammonium nitrate is cut with a chemical now where it isn't pure to use in bombs. Whether he found a way to get it out or bought some pure somehow... who knows. Tannerite you have to shoot with at least a .223 caliber to get it to go off. Sure he could've rigged something up but tannerite is ammonium nitrate and aluminum powder. It would've been very expensive to make no doubt.

13

u/modularpeak2552 Dec 27 '20

It sounds like he planned on killing himself i dont think the cost was something he even took into consideration

2

u/DemonDog47 Dec 28 '20

Well, if he blew himself up as they suspect he could've just been in the RV and shot it.

3

u/prof0072b Dec 27 '20

May have been accumulated over a long period of time

9

u/[deleted] Dec 27 '20

Fertilizer based?

23

u/vasquca1 Dec 27 '20

Might want to share with authorities. It could help with their investigation.

39

u/ayokg tater mod of inglewood Dec 27 '20

This has been circulating since it happened. I'm sure the authorities have it.

13

u/vasquca1 Dec 27 '20

Cool cool

1

u/DemonDog47 Dec 28 '20

Not sure what it would prove other than there was an explosion which I think we've all agreed upon by now.

2

u/vasquca1 Dec 28 '20

Yes. It turned out to be an easily open and shut case Johnson.

14

u/Atrampoline the Nations Dec 27 '20

Lol, I literally posted this same picture hours after the event happened. I think the mods may have taken it down due to the megathread?

7

u/Emayteatea Dec 27 '20

Ah shit sorry man! I looked and didn’t see anywhere!

5

u/Atrampoline the Nations Dec 27 '20

No worries! I think the mods took it down during the flurry of trying to keep things contained to the megathread. IMO, kind of a dumb move.

2

u/[deleted] Dec 27 '20

Hey man, can you post the video?

1

u/Atrampoline the Nations Dec 27 '20

This image was shared with me from that morning so I don't have the video, sorry.

2

u/[deleted] Dec 27 '20

Ahh gotcha

1

u/SpacePistachio Dec 28 '20

lol imagine complaining about karma of a terrorist bombing.

1

u/Atrampoline the Nations Dec 28 '20

No, I thought it was disappointing that I shared this image with the community and the mods removed it therefore limiting the userbase to the content they could see.

I don't think posting on r/nashville is a format for karma whores.

5

u/AdamLS38 Dec 27 '20

I just got a notification that they found the remains of the bomber.

3

u/DietMTNDew8and88 Dec 27 '20

Shit.. That's a huge blast.. My god..

Ammonium nitrate.

This is so scary. I can’t imagine driving and seeing this!

1

u/_w00k_ Dec 27 '20

OP, did you take this picture?

1

u/Emayteatea Dec 27 '20

I did not. It was shared with me

I found it interesting that you felt the need to share it. Literally crazy ā€˜ā€™Patrioticā€ propaganda

1

u/kfb85 Dec 28 '20

I didn't say I agreed with it or disagreed, but it's definitely interesting.

1

u/Intrepidors Dec 28 '20

It’s nonsense

1

u/Intrepidors Dec 28 '20

It’s also doctored footage.
