Brian Windhorst “It’s absolutely brutal for them that Kawhi would opt of that contract instead of extending. It hurts their long term plans. It cost them a 9.5 million dollar injured player exemption…”

From the latest hoop collective podcast

https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/brian-windhorst-the-hoop-collective/id293376147?i=1000531184452

Also adding “I understand that Kawhi has to look out for Kawhi… but at some level there has to be a partnership with the team.”

I’m sure the Clips still want to contend whether or not Kawhi comes back form injury so I bet they would’ve used that exception.

Wonder what Kawhi’s motivation is for not extending and waiting this long to sign.

Whoa whoa - how was he right about KAT? KAT’s always balled out and KG himself said KAT’s work ethic was tremendous, it seems it was more about whose team it was. Wiggins…we’ll no argument there although it’s good to see him more focused in GS.

I think it was less about KAT's talent and work ethic.

More about KAT supposedly being soft.

In the interview with Jon Krawcynski, it alluded to the fact that KAT didn't listen to Jimmy's advice because he "doesn't buy in to all that stuff" (Especially regarding defence)

KAT’s not a winning player and isn’t willing or able to sacrifice his stats to do everything to win. KATs a top 7 center and is good but Butler never saw the buy in from KAT to be a winner. Also he doesn’t have the dog in him defensively and get bullied in the paint a lot for someone his size.

Nobody is arguing KAT doesn’t seem like a genuinely good dude and it was heartbreaking to see everything he had to go through the last couple years. But in the context of basketball Jimmy was right though. Now I think once KAT leaves Minnesota and gets on a good team than maybe he can change some of his narratives. But that still won’t mean Jimmy wasn’t right at the time.

Might be true, just saying that's taking Jimmy's word for it, I don't see any rings on his "stupidly locked-in" fingers

Hey, maybe this is the year KAT gets to the playoffs without Jimmy dragging his ass up and down the court every game! :)
