I’m not sure about heroine, but that was probably once true for cocaine (chewing coca leaves) and tobacco (smoking dried leaves). Coffee, however has - correct me if I’m wrong - a similar process to cacao (not talking of chocolate, because from cacao to chocolate isn’t super difficult to imagine) and it just don’t understand how someone came up with that. It’s not as easy as flicking the berries in some hot water…
