No they aren't.

Nobody has ever been successfully sued for rendering first aid, even in America. Any lawyer worth a damn would advise their client of that, then if the advice wasn't followed, make sure they collect the fee in advance for making a bona fide basic legal argument that was immediately shot down by the first court it hit. The firefighter is also legally indemnified by their employer.
