Absolutely correct. Under tort law in most states, the person trying to save a life is immune from punishment

There's also statutory immunity for firefighters and paramedics from ordinary negligence

In some states it’s wrapped up with the police immunity and could be in jeopardy depending on how police reform laws are written.

That's unfortunate. They need to at least split those statutes. Subjecting dirt responders to ordinary negligence lawsuits will lead to a flood of litigation.
