Yeah I’m referring to the post— I don’t understand how people can come in here and be so damn negative and pessimistic and start talking about “ulterior motives” when this man is very clearly a firefighter who just risked his life to save an adult man, easily 86kg, falling in mid-air! Like wtf??
Who here is going to do that?? Who here is even able to do that. Doing something like that as anybody else will easily get you yanked out of the window falling to your untimely death too. So when people talk about just “doing it because it makes them look good” you guys just purposely ignore the evidence that there are clearly people who do it just because maybe they’re good people??
If a person was working at a dog shelter, helping them get adopted and they decided to post pictures all the time on Instagram, Twitter or whatever with stupid ass captions— does that mean what that person is doing is suddenly a bad thing? How is it not still inherently good? They’re doing a good thing, dogs get living families and homes and then there’s less dogs in shelters. Who cares why they do it, that’s no one’s business. You can’t see what goes on in peoples’ heads, you’ll never know their intentions. As long as it’s progressive and it’s a good thing, I’m 100% for it.
People here keep trying to psychoanalyze and over analyze others and need every excuse to look for the negative aspects of everything. I’m sorry for the long paragraphs but what I see here is people being pro-suicide and I genuinely believe that I’m in a simulation.
Okay, I get what you are saying but I don't really think it makes sense in relation to the original comment you responded to. It would make more sense somewhere else in the comment section. The one you responded to wasn't about the video or people's right to suicide. Just the pointlessness of the "you are loved" "things get better" kind of comments.
Oh maybe I’m misinterpreting then because I thought the guy I replied to originally was saying how actions by the firefighter were wrong and he should’ve just let the guy die, to which I said fuck that. I can agree that toxic positivity is definitely a thing, especially if it gets nothing done or doesn’t better the situation or idea at hand.
However, I’d be more in favor of the progressive comments about actual solutions and diving deep into the roots of why the suicide rate is so high in certain places, whether it be because of student debt, debt in general, poverty, homelessness, education too expensive, etc. I’m sure there is a systemic issue that exacerbates everything and perpetuates suffering amongst people.
I’m more targeting the people that just submit to letting these people die as if that is a solution, to which it is not because it doesn’t address any of the possible causes. It actually doesn’t address anything at all. You’re admitting that you’re just giving up on them which needs to be the opposite of what people should do, as I’m sure the person contemplating suicide already believes that themselves.
I’m sorry that I came off as aggressive towards you but I’m just passionate about it as I know I, for one, am thankful someone stopped me because my life is actually better and If they hadn’t, I wouldn’t have even had the chance. So people pushing this narrative that they are of sound mind, and it’s their choice, their fundamental right blah blah— I was not of sound mind at ALL so I won’t follow this ridiculous generalization. Sometimes, it’s your choice because you feel like there IS NO OTHER choice. It’s not like they wouldn’t want it to be any other way, obviously. I can only speak for me but I won’t support any oversimplification on this matter.

The next person said exactly, people do what makes them look good not what does good.
You said that if someone is doing something that looks good and helps, what does their motive matter?
And then I said that those kinds of comments don't actually help though.
