A string shooter

I’ve had two of these over the course of my life! Got them both from a theme park (I think it was Universal Studios, but it may have been Disney World). They were chunky black handheld machines with super long rainbow ropes to “shoot”. There was even an LED light at the top edge of the rope hole, so when you shoot it in the dark, the whole rope looks like it’s glowing. My favorite part, by far, was shooting it up and bouncing it on my hand whenever gravity brought it down slowly. I still have one of them somewhere, and it’s wonderful fun, even now that I’m an adult! 10/10 do recommend.

I got one from Disneyland when I was a kid! I was looking to see if someone had commented with the same experience. Those things were so cool; I have no idea what happened to mine!

This was my first thought too! I had a blue and pink stringed one many years ago!

I got one at Disney World! I believe it was at the fantasmic show many years ago. I remember its name was “the string thing” or something similar.

Yes! They sold them on the carts of light toys that went around before the night shows at the parks.

Holy shit! This just flooded me with vivid memories that I haven't thought of in at leas twenty years. Thanks!

I bought an invisible dog on a leash instead.

I was thinking the exact same thing. That was the coolest thing as a kid.

Thanks for bringing this memory back! I specifically remember that cart of light toys before the night show, I wanted one of those balloons inside another bigger balloon that lit up but I think I settled for some Mickey ears

My experience with them was going to Disneyland and wanting one. "No."

That was the end of that.

Check your rope hole

1

u/timeup 26d ago

It's in the green and brown snow boots box behind the shovels in the garage.

1

u/26514 26d ago

Now I want one and wonder why I've never heard of them.

u/PopcornShrimpy 25d ago

Your mom threw it in the trash with the rest of your childhood. So is the fate of anything we found neat as children.

17

u/gostan 26d ago

Yeah I got one of those exact things you described from Disney world in 2006

2

u/Scyhaz 26d ago

Same, and around the same time too. Had a fun time with that thing as a kid.

u/lanadeltrey 26d ago

Me too!!

u/Brandodude 26d ago

We are all the same person

12

u/the_only_thing 26d ago

Omg. I remember those things. They were at Disney’s Hollywood Studios right outside the exit of the Rockin’ Rollercoaster. I always wanted one but never got one. Thanks for the memories!

3

u/Gnostromo 26d ago

Wait. So you didn't hold it up to your area and pretend like you were pissing and jizzing all over everyone ?!?!

-2

u/Meghan493 26d ago

To my AREA? Sweetie, are you old enough to use Reddit???

I think it was Universal studios, but it may have been Disney World.

Pay attention

u/Poketronus 26d ago

I actually meant online so I don't have to spend hundreds to a thousand dollars to get a toy but thanks

1

u/Gooja 26d ago

I can't seem to find them on Amazon, perhaps I'm searching the wrong thing

What are you talking about dude

2

u/AtlantisTheEmpire 26d ago

I bet you’re fun at parties. I know that’s usually meant as an insult, but I’m being sincere.

2

u/Meghan493 26d ago

Thank you for clarifying, because my feelings were hurt for a second there lol

2

u/AtlantisTheEmpire 26d ago

I would never! :D

1

u/LovieTunes 26d ago

1

u/Indy-in-in 26d ago

My daughter got one at Disney World in 2010.

1

u/jammwan 26d ago

1

u/tetradserket 26d ago

Oh my god, I had the exact same thing!

…I miss it now.

1

u/TheFlyingSaucers 26d ago

String thing!

1

u/your__dad_ 26d ago

I didn't even know these things existed.

1

u/therandomways2002 26d ago

I got an invisible dog on a leash. Reading your comment, I feel that I chose poorly.

1

u/Meghan493 26d ago

Yeah, sorry to break it to you, but it definitely sounds like you did.

1

u/imabigpoopsicle 26d ago

This video unlocked the memory of that exact toy. I used to love the light and even when the light died I would walk it around like a dog for hours. Jesus fuckin Christ that was a deep one. Love that you still have yours.

1

u/Meghan493 26d ago

It was a deep memory for me too! I got my first one when I was like 8, then I remembered it when I walked past a vendor’s stall in that theme park when I was 17, so I bought myself another one for shits and giggles.

1

u/fartsbutt 26d ago

There are more of us

1

u/g-radians 26d ago

you just unlocked a core memory for me with this comment. I used to have one and it was endless joy, I remember putting it against a wall or my hand and watching it climb around. here's a link to what they look like for anyone curious: https://youtu.be/RL-woi9UfA8

u/AtlasEndured51 26d ago

Great review! 5 stars.

1

u/levis3163 26d ago

I'd use a thick fishing line and a laser pointer inside if I designed it, like a lightsaber loop.

1

u/ForbiddenJazz 26d ago

I’m so surprised my parents actually bought those for me and my brother. Honestly, they were amazing

1

u/MarshFilmz 26d ago

I think it was probably Disney world cuz I got the same one too! I remember the string always getting caught in the machine lol. Still a lot of fun when it worked.
