You need a charge controller to charge and use a lithium battery safely.

Yea a board like that can be as little as $1.30 probably less if you buy large quantities

I still find it fucked up that the lightning cord has a micro in it.

It just feels wrong.

This one the tiktok video is showing I can understand why there's a microcontroller in there, since it's easier to buy those than it is to buy just 1 chip purposefully made to control 2 motors. For a large batch, yeah doesn't make sense
