I remember this article from that time: https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/apr/24/revealed-leader-group-peddling-bleach-cure-lobbied-trump-coronavirus

“The leader of the most prominent group in the US peddling potentially lethal industrial bleach as a “miracle cure” for coronavirus wrote to Donald Trump at the White House this week.

In his letter, Mark Grenon told Trump that chlorine dioxide – a powerful bleach used in industrial processes such as textile manufacturing that can have fatal side-effects when drunk – is “a wonderful detox that can kill 99% of the pathogens in the body”. He added that it “can rid the body of Covid-19”.

A few days after Grenon dispatched his letter, Trump went on national TV at his daily coronavirus briefing at the White House on Thursday and promoted the idea that disinfectant could be used as a treatment for the virus. To the astonishment of medical experts, the US president said that disinfectant “knocks it out in a minute. One minute!”

“a wonderful detox that can kill 99% of the pathogens in the body”

True. But unfortunately… it kills the other 99% too.

viral cells in the body can be completely inactivated in several days with a handgun

Don’t suggest that to the GOP.

Why not? Tell people that bullets can be used instead of a vaccine and we have ourselves a self-correcting problem.

They'll use it as an excuse to kill and harm others and claim the perverse moral high ground, like they do with everything.

"Pastor Jim blessed these bullets with the power to kill the hoax-virus, and it only cost me $0.50 per bullet!"

Counterpoint: the GOP doesn't care about other people and shooting others with no benefit to themselves sounds a bit like socialism.

Bruh the person youre talking to is literally taking a perverse moral high ground while joking about getting people to kill themselves as a positive

You are literally engaged in the shit you are saying "they" do.

Nazis following in ihr Fuehrer's footsteps would absolutely be a positive.

Oh my god, of all the useful things Trump could have read (and probably refused to most of the time) he reads a letter from Mark fucking Grenon. Fyi he and his family later got indicted for selling this poison.

'Archbishop' of Florida church selling bleach 'miracle cure' arrested with son.

He probably read, or at least was given, tons of good information. What he wanted was a quick miracle cure, which is why he cared about that letter.

It's not like that's the one he randomly happened to read.

It sucks that there aren’t any updates on this.

And Sarah Cooper’s fame took off!

I hope she’s doing well.

Then when he was outed, he tried to play it off as a fucking joke. Like WHY are you making jokes that NO ONE would understand and take seriously, during the height of a pandemic. It’s mind boggling.

See this is where I had assumed he got his bogus info from. I had no idea there was also a sign on stage that he completely misinterpreted. Truly incredible.

The whole thing was eerily similar to the movie Contagion with Jude Law's character shilling Forsythia.

I do wish the bleach therapy was implemented.

Would root out some lower end bodies in "One minute!".

Idiocracy. /s

As another thread said, Idiocracy was a utopia.

Everyone had free healthcare.

So many jobs had been automated, few really needed to work.

Prostitution is legal, and affords prostitutes protections under the law.

Once the people were convinced that cryo-dude was the smartest person alive, they made him president and listened to what he had to say.

It wasn't perfect, but it had serious perks.

People that suggest he implied “consume the disinfectants” are the very reason Shampoo has directions - “Apply. Rinse. Repeat.”

"And then I see the disinfectant, where it knocks it out in one minute. And is there a way we can do something like that, by injection inside or almost a cleaning, because you see it gets in the lungs and it does a tremendous number on the lungs, so it’d be interesting to check that, so that you’re going to have to use medical doctors with, but it sounds interesting to me. So, we’ll see, but the whole concept of the light, the way it kills it in one minute. That’s pretty powerful."

Later, Trump clarified his comments after a reporter asked Bryan whether disinfectants could actually be injected into COVID-19 patients.

"It wouldn’t be through injections, almost a cleaning and sterilization of an area. Maybe it works, maybe it doesn’t work, but it certainly has a big effect if it’s on a stationary object."
