What I imagine they actually asked was, “Where are you getting this information from?” As in, is someone telling you these stupid ideas or are you making them up from your own brain? this is the part that feels like a joke. specifically. don't get it twisted, or try to twist it like i'm saying he was joking about putting sunlight/disinfectant in his body.
My problem with thinking it's a joke is that by many accounts he's quite charismatic and charming in person... if that's the case, then I find it hard to believe he could so often be so tone deaf and unable to make it clear he's joking.
I make too many jokes, but rarely do people think I'm serious when I'm joking and if they do I can sense that and then make it clear that it was a joke. I just think if he's really the personality they say he is, then we wouldn't be able to have this many misunderstood jokes

The guy has been talking to crowds his whole life. Speaking to people in high stakes situations is something he considers to be one of his best attributes... he even co-wrote a book about it.

Granted, but just because you’re a narcissist does not mean you can’t be self aware or find humor in the things you do. The guy has lived a life that most dream of. He became president of the nation... He has numerous properties and a large family. He’s avoided jail time on so many occasions the guy is made of Teflon. He doesn’t have a bad life by any means. Other than emotional responses, by any metric he has more than the ideal life.
I don’t idolize him by any means, but if I had the opportunity to snap my fingers and swap places with the guy(other than age), I’d do it.
To say you would turn down his wealth and that kind of ability just because people dislike the person(myself included) is simply folly.

I used to work with a guy with a personality EXACTLY like Trump and it was one of the most infuriating experiences of my life. He'd seen it all and done it all. He used to be better than you at literally everything, but he got bored with it after mastering it and lost interest. He was never, ever wrong and if he was it was either because something changed or somebody lied to him.
He claimed to have been a "top 10 in the world" marathon runner when he was younger. He once told me that he has proven the fucking Theory of Relativity wrong, but refuses to publish his work because he doesn't want the fame and attention. (Worry not dear scientist who might be reading this, he has "left instructions for it to be published upon his death".) Anytime I had to talk to him at his desk he would have dozens and dozens of programs, Excel sheets, browser tabs, etc. open all at the same time and would insist that he was actively working in all of them at the same time, because he was a master multitasker too. He claimed to only sleep 2 hours a night and to prove it he would show up at the factory at several different times every night just to "check in".
I've never met anyone like him before or since and in my mind him and Trump are exactly alike. Because of my experiences I feel a great deal of pity for anyone who ever tried to work for Donald Trump who was actually there for the right reasons and wanted to do the job right.

He did this at the CDC in March, and it was true. They were surprised that he knew it was quite deadly and infectious despite downplaying it publicly. He wanted to impress the experts, but they were horrified, which he described as "surprised".
I feel like there’s two possibilities: either he doesn’t give a shit about whether or not what he says is actually true or just something he’s making up or he’s so far up his own ass he thinks that if he says it it HAS to be true. Both IMO are equally possible and equally frightening.

It's actually possible that some of the more dubious "doctors" Trump was listening to were doing the same thing, which is why he would put/keep them on his advisory panel for the COVID-19 response.
That part might be true. He doesn't keep anyone in his orbit who isn't a yes man who throws fawning praise at him at every opportunity. If you're not willing to do that, you won't last long as you can tell by the number of people he fired and replaced during his administration.
If you're trying to do work that you think is essential, and the only way you'll be allowed to keep doing that work is to praise an idiot, you might just decide that it's in everyone's best interest if you just tell the moron whether he wants to hear.
