It's OK to blame the unvaccinated — they are robbing the rest of us of our freedoms

Don’t have to tell me twice, I’ve been blaming them for awhile now. Nothing wrong with proper assignment of blame, how else can anyone expect to fix anything otherwise?

Same, society shouldn't have to cater to the willfully ignorant and dangerous science deniers. We are now talking about the public in general needlessly at increased risk because yes, populations with low vaccination numbers do indeed spread the virus faster causing more frequent mutation and in turn, a greater risk of vaccine-resistant variants. Not to mention a crippling of healthcare systems. People who reject and have contempt for expertise and proven facts because they themselves don't understand (and/or don't want to) should never be coddled at the expense of public health.

And any politician or person in a place of power encouraging this distrust and flat out rejection of science and facts for votes is a fucking criminal.

Exactly! Don't believe in science enough to get a simple vaccine? Then you sure as hell don't get to go to a hospital and rely on SCIENCE to save you. Keep your ass at home and pray or whatever instead.

science deniers

you realize science is not a religion or some divine monolith right

science can and SHOULD be questioned

especially with a rushed vaccine that has already proven to be ineffective

Anti-maskers deserve the lions share of the blame (even the vaccinated ones at this point).

You can still spread delta even if you're vaccinated.

Make no mistake, getting vaccinated will still lower your ability to spread it, but you CAN still spread it.

Wear masks people! (But please, also get vaccinated, it'll save YOUR life.)

Came here to say something simular.

I'm fully vaccinated (not American) and I strongly disagree with the sentiments of the article and most top comments here. Strategy is extremely important and I'm not convinced that constantly insulting antivaxxers will be productive. I'm also not convinced that antivaxxers are the only people to blame for outbreaks, or that it's only conservative politicians who have made huge mistakes. Although it is plausible they are disproportionately harmful.

Antivaxxers aren't just a cause of problems, they are also a symptom. Why don't they trust scientists? Why don't they trust the media? How does poor education contribute to their views? How does poverty in general? If it was just a tiny fragment of the population, I could maybe understand the vilification. But this is clearly systemic. And therefore, we should target the system, not just the people influenced by it.

So we should have or should not have vaccine mandates?

Amazing how the origin of the virus never comes into the conversation of proper assignment of blame.

We should blame and punish bats and pangolins?

I mean if we're going that far back its still trump's fault due to his willful non-action despite months of advance warning from experts and his decisions to bring home the embassy people from China.

Um…there is no point further back than the origin

how about you blame the governemnt

and not your fellow citizens

the government is taking your freedoms away

attitudes like this "blame the other" is how fascism happens

People willing to take the simple steps of isolating, wearing masks, restricting travel and so on to minimize spreads are also the same people willing to get vaccinated. If the government can’t get people to isolate I doubt they’ll get them to vaccinate.

Don’t have to tell me twice, I’ve been blaming them for awhile now.

I see this a lot and feels like the undercurrent is a bit racist considering black Americans are the ones with the lowest vaccination rates.

A lot of people rooting for them to lose jobs and shit on here...
