Can you explain why groups of people who caught the same variant had a range of severity in illness, from literally no symptoms all they way to death? Your "not all variants are bad" argument is ridiculous.
First of all, there are so many variables like virus load, existing immunities from prior infections or the vax, and co-morbidities that play a role in how sick one gets.
Second, and most importantly, a variant that is the least deadly would be the one to become the dominant strain in the world. If the virus kills its host, it loses the opportunity to spread as far. If your BS was remotely correct, the prevalent strains wouldn't cause all those deaths and hospitalizations.
