Best I've been able to tell... this is almost entirely due to anti-spam efforts...

These accounts are some of the most prolific spammers on the site.

the same pictures on 10 different subs, linked OF in every comment section, and automated dm’s to random people

yeah they are pretty spammy

5.9k

u/headzoo Aug 18 '22 Silver Helpful Take My Energy

Saying 10 subs is being generous. I'll click on a profile link and spend 30 second scrolling as fast as I can to get past the same picture posted to dozens and dozens of subs. Just to reach the next picture that was posted to dozens of subs. And then the next. Every picture posted within a few hours.

They're free to do whatever they want but most of the subs have nothing to do with their niche. It's just straight spam.

2.7k

u/BeginnerMush Aug 18 '22

Yeah, and then you realize it repeats. And for 2 years they’ve posted a total of 5 photos thousands of times. It’s not even putting in effort

I use RES and RIF, check your specific app to see how to block people; it's worth it.

59

u/Explore-PNW Aug 18 '22

I don’t know who that person is but my favorite thing about this platform is blocking accounts of people/content that I simply don’t need in my life. It is so liberating.

Sure I can do that on other platforms but there’s something nicer doing it from a place of conceptual anonymity

100% agree . And often for no worry for where it’s inappropriate. Marvel forums were getting spammed to death with r rated “cosplay” . Hey I’m wearing tight black leather this is totally a “black widow” cosplay and not just a advertisement for my onlyfans.

121

u/Diltyrr Aug 18 '22

Same with DND cosplay "look at me being naked with a single six sided dice on my belly button" "hey look at me naked with some cheap plastic pointy ears I stole from my kids"

50

u/x4740N Aug 18 '22

They took over r/cosplay too, while they are not nude there they subtly advertise their only fans by posting provocative but sfw images and the mods there don't give a shit

27

u/TheMadTemplar Aug 18 '22

You know what's funny? Some of those onlyfans aren't nude either, just a place to pay to see more of the slightly NSFW but non-nude cosplays.

Best I've been able to tell... this is almost entirely due to anti-spam efforts. These accounts are some of the most prolific spammers on the site.

I research spam and bot activity on social media, what you're saying is correct.

I don't think users understand how bad the OnlyFans spam actually is and the ironic thing is that it used to be even worse just two years ago.

You have NSFW accounts coming into random (non NSFW) subreddits and mass spamming their content. If it's a video game or anime subreddit the accounts will promote their cosplay. If it's an animal or hobby subreddit they'll pose with an animal (or dance/sing/paint/etc) to try and skirt the rules.

For example: https://www.reddit.com/r/SubredditDrama/comments/wran3u/one_piece_fans_get_fed_up_with_cosplayers_posting

102

u/quick_escalator Aug 18 '22

Example:

https://www.reddit.com/user/your_submissive_doll

Obviously NSFW account. Any picture there is repeated 50+ times over all of reddit. I'm pretty sure she's banned in multiple larger subreddits where people got fed up by seeing the same content six times over the ten porn subs they follow.

GoneWild subs were for exhibitionists, but nowadays it's just marketing.

u/TheAJGman Aug 18 '22 edited Aug 18 '22

I've been bitching about this for like two years now and only recently have I seen my ranting get any attention. Most people just called me an asshole for pointing it out because "it doesn't actually break sub rules".

  • Profile full of nudes and OnlyFans links. (They hide all other posts usually)

  • Posts a picture of themselves with [SUB RELATED OBJECT HERE] and some catchy title (or just posts in /r/pics and asks if anyone thinks they're cute.

  • Redditors see a woman and instinctually upvote, they see her profile and upvote, or the thing they posted is genuinely cool and they upvote.

  • If anyone calls them out in the comments it only serves as better advertisment.

  • Post hits /r/all

All they need is one person to click their profile and subscribe to make their ultra-low effort post worth it. It has gotten to the point that about a quarter of posts that hit r/all featuring an attractive woman are this type of self promotion

t's actually specifically banned on /r/roastme because it became a huge problem a few years ago. If you're profile is mostly promoting your OnlyFans/YouTube channel/Twitch stream/Armadillo breeding facility/whatever they remove your post.

That's immediately what I thought. They post in other subs under some false pretense, then start hinting about their OnlyFans or tell people to look at their profile, which links to their OnlyFans.

Also, when someone says "I have absolutely no idea what I did to violate Reddit's content policy," I don't believe them for one moment. They know or at least have a good idea, they just want to be a victim.

28

u/lochamonster Aug 18 '22

It has also leaked into subs like r/relationships or r/AITA where an insane story is posted and you feel hurt for them in your gut. So naturally you’re curious about the poster, and you find that their entire post history is just OF spam and fake stories on other subs. Completely invalidating the original post with 200 comments.

That’s because they spam the fuck out of any subreddit related to sex.

1.5k

u/Amelaclya1 Aug 18 '22

And even ones that aren't.

I hate how prevalent it's become, because it's made it so women can't post anything with themselves in the post because immediately everyone suspects they are OF spammers. Because 9/10 times they are.

They know thirsty dudes are going to click the profile of any moderately attractive woman looking for gonewild posts, and then post a comment about it when they find some. And then suddenly - stickied in their profile is a link to their OF.

Like someone above said they saw it in /r/Eyebleach of all places. 🙄

I like r/amihot for this. Or rather when I’m scrolling r/all/rising it seems to be one of the main offenders at least. I’d say it’s probably half OF spam, quarter new accounts trying to get karma so that Automod doesn’t delete their OF spam and a quarter genuine posters.

And even ones that aren't

Preach. Even some niche nerd subreddits, animes, games, you name it. OF girls usually post some harmless cosplay, and they may actually be fans of the product. But sure enough if you follow through their account their top pinned post is a OF link.

They may genuinely have been posting their cosplay earnestly. But when they same cosplay is posted to porn subs with less to the imagination and they've been just as spammy it really makes you wonder. Then you get the same issue when the frontpage is mostly reposted cosplays.

I live in Vegas and for every thousand women on any given dating app, there are easily 950 promoting their onlyfans or Snapchat. I have no problem if you want to do sex work, but there’s a place for advertising that shit. Do it outside those boundaries or in a deceptive manner and you deserve to be banned from the platform.

27

That’s the thing. Imagine you have an online shop that sells t-shirts with a gaming theme, for example. If you posted pictures of your shirts with text telling people where to go buy your shirts on /r/gaming and /r/Zelda and /r/Xbox and /r/Nintendo etc first; you’d get banned from the community by the mods. Second, Reddit would probably suspend your account for spam.

Honestly, I'm surprised this didn't become an issue sooner. Many of the NSFW subs have become overrun with people promoting their OF work. On the one hand, I respect the hustle. On some of them, the OF sellers have straight up taken over. To be a successful OF seller, you have to be good at social media management, brand management, etc. That means they have the skills and time required to moderate.

In theory that could be a good thing, but in practise it means that the subs they take over become, guess what, OF spam.

And in some cases, they even then change the rules to pull the ladder up by allowing them to selectively ban anyone they have an industry beef with or who threatens them.

I don't care that they promote their content on here, but they fucking spam it to every NSFW sub and half the time the listings are low quality butthole shots. Fuck off with that stuff.

638

u/HereForTheFood4 Aug 18 '22

Ah a man with a discerning eye. I knew I wasn't the only one that could tell a low qual butthole shot from a high qual one.

380

u/Lepurten Aug 18 '22 Vibing

Less the quality of the butthole, more that it doesn't really represent a happy embarrassed girl in /r/HappyEmbarrassedGirls - Most NSFW subreddits arent straight porn but have a theme to them and all this dumb spam makes it unnoticable. It's annoying and kind of sad, so I appreciate it if Reddit moves against it.

Most NSFW subreddits arent straight porn but have a theme to them and all this dumb spam makes it unnoticable

Honestly the most annoying part about these spammers. They’re not taking specific pictures for specific subreddits. It’s one picture/gif a day blasted to every half popular nsfw subreddit. What that ends up doing is just cluttering the subreddits and making them all the same even though they have nuances.

30

u/heliamphore Aug 18 '22

It's not even a picture a day, they make a photoshoot and spam the content for months afterwards.

Even the hookup subs have been bombarded with OF profiles. People are being told to pay before meeting-up, which defeats the purpose of a hookup.

79

u/Envect Aug 18 '22

So...they're soliciting?

39

u/[deleted] Aug 18 '22

Reminds me of dating apps. A lot of hookup subs and dating apps explicitly say no sex work/solicitation. Then these OF chicks do exactly that and shill their OF, and complain that they got banned.

The internet was better before everyone tried to monetize everything.

232

u/DAVENP0RT Aug 18 '22 Silver Gold

There was a brief, beautiful time in the mid-to-late-2000s when the internet was relatively expansive, but mostly unmonetized. It makes me very sad for the people who will never be able to experience that joy. You could spend hours on YouTube without ads or annoying recommendations, Facebook was actually fun and exciting, and message boards were numerous and rife with great content. Fucking Hulu was free and ad-free. Every single day, you could find something new and you didn't need to be advertised to in order to enjoy it.

In comparison, the internet is a shell of its former self. Everything is monetized to hell and back, just to squeeze every last penny possible from even the blandest, most trivial content. So much of it feels cheap and gimmicky.

Don't get me wrong, I love the advancements that have been made. I wouldn't be able to function without Google Maps' rich search functionality. And streaming content has vastly improved in quality; you can have someone in their backyard shooting video that's almost film-level quality (visually). But there was just something about that early stuff, looking like it was filmed with a potato, that felt real and genuine.

As one who posted in naughty subreddits since long before Onlyfans, just for the fun of it (not from this account), I think all this Onlyfans spam had basically killed all the naughty subreddits.

I used to get decent amounts of engagement - dozens of upvotes, a couple comments, but in recent years my post will get maybe a single digit amount of upvotes and zero comments. Now maybe I've just become old and unattractive (tho I think my appearance hadn't changed much at all), but it was especially since 2020 that I started getting only crickets from my old favorite subreddits.

I'd mainly moved on to NSFW Twitter as I guess it's not quite so easy for Onlyfans models to spam that site and there's a very thriving community of exhibitionists who do it just for the fun and not to make a buck off of it. I'll drop an occasional pic I think is especially noteworthy onto Reddit, to hardly any engagement, things just aren't the same on this site anymore.

You should submit from a variety of sources (a general rule of thumb is that 10% or less of your posting and conversation should link to your own content), talk to people in the comments (and not just on your own links), and generally be a good member of the community.

It's insane how soft Reddit is with NSFW spammers... we have people who datamine games getting banned for making a unique post once every 2 months to their free blog, but these people spamming the same picture to 50 subreddits every day and trying to sell they OF account keep on trucking without issues...

Every NSFW sub is now:

  1. Butthole shot
  2. Boobs
  3. Amazon bought costume for some overplayed anime character
  4. “Good morning. Now say it back”
  5. “Hi gamers, am I breedable?”
  6. Ahego face with the caption “Link in Description”

209

u/networking_noob Aug 18 '22

“Good morning. Now say it back”

lol yes they always say things like this to increase engagement for their posts. Especially on sites like Instagram. The caption will be a random question like "what did you have for breakfast?" and about 2,000 horny dumb dumbs will comment their answer. Do they really think she's going to read it or care. These girls feign personal interest to a mass audience in order to boost engagement numbers for a sponsor or advertiser. And this strategy will never fail them because there's an apparently infinite number of dumb/lonely/horny suckers out there. Where's the next asteroid let's get this over with

Though Vanniall got her account back, she still has no idea why it had been taken down in the first place. “These several day interruptions very quickly impact someone’s income — a week can feel like a month to waiting fans” looking to connect with their favorite creator, she says. Plus, “without a notification or any warning in advance, it means fans aren’t even left with a place to ask questions about where their stars or friends disappeared to.”

Wait...OnlyFans doesn't have a way for content creators to interact with their Fans? The only way she can market her product...is by using Reddit?

At the time, Vanniall was working in retail, but she says Reddit subsequently became an essential part of her burgeoning adult content business, using the platform to interact with existing fans, recruit new ones, and promote her services on other platforms like OnlyFans or Chaturbate.

Probably the main reason why. If you look at most of the sex worker accounts’ post history, they basically just spam the same post onto multiple subreddits trying to promote their OnlyFans to gain money while Reddit gets none of the cut.

Reddit definitely wouldn’t be happy with their platform being used as a personal advertising platform without getting their cut (which normal ad contents have to). This is pretty common in other tech businesses that rely on ads for income.

That being said, Reddit doesn’t necessarily have a mechanism to properly advertise (and Reddit gets a cut) these workers’ adult content pages nor would they add one - so I guess ban it is.

I respect the hustle but as someone who mods multiple NSFW subreddits, good. They used to be a place where people wanted to show off for fun. Now it's just turned into a money grab with half the posts not even being nude. I know if I put in a rule that disallowed censoring, I'd get attacked by all of them for it.

Edit: Fuck it. Added the rules to them. If it loses users because they can no longer post non-nudes, It doesn't bother me because it GoneWild and not GoneMild.

38

u/gives-out-hugs Aug 18 '22

Im about two post complaints away from making a no censor rule on a couple, like if you wanna post pics with clothing, fine, if you wanna post nudes, fine, but pick one, stop posting censored nudes to drive our users to your page for more at 15 dollars a month, i dont even pay that for wow and at least blizzard will fuck me if i give them money

101

u/lostpawn13 Aug 18 '22

They’re straight up spamming and annoying people. Random people trying to pump money out of you truly ruins a platform for me. People don’t like being harassed online by random people for money. I’m here to look at memes and have interesting conversations.

24

u/Amelaclya1 Aug 18 '22

That's true too. I browse almost exclusively on mobile using a third party app. So I didn't even know Reddit has a chat feature now. I logged on my account on my PC for the first time in years to see I had a whole bunch of chat requests. I opened them up with some trepidation, expecting that I said something controversial and pissed someone off. But nope, all OF spammers.

And I'm a woman who's never posted in a NSFW sub, so it tends to suggest they are employing bots to just send messages en masse to random people. Of course Reddit is going to ban them for that.
