Keep disconnecting from certain games Open | Networking

Every time I play games like Overwatch 2 or warzone I always disconnect at a random time. I use blizzard to run overwatch and I use steam for warzone and they both still disconnect. When I disconnect from overwatch I can see on blizzard that I did in fact lose connection but I can still talk with friends and stuff. Please any help would be amazing.

Sometimes voice chat stays alive due to the nature of the underlying protocol (VoIP is P2P) despite an internet outage, or brownout.

Best way I would do this is setup a ping (open terminal/cmd) and type ping 8.8.8.8 -c100 and see what output you get. Latency over 40ms avg and loss over 2% will affect your game significantly. If neither of those are true, it is likely inside your network, requiring router reboot, and changing which devices are connected when you want to game.

-t is timeout for 100 seconds, -c is count for 100 packets. Either will get you there :)

When I tried it on win10 it errored out. Care to share a video? -t worked -c failed.

They will both work, I'm on mac and -c also works on linux so, use -t if that's best.

Sorry my friend. You’re still incorrect. On Windows it will not work. Here’s a screen shot. On Mac and Linux yes but not Windows.

when I did this I got a 35ms avg but it would occasionally spike to the 140s or 50s.

Now what about your router itself? I would do traceroute 8.8.8.8 and try ping that first IP, likely 192.168.0.1, 192.168.1.1, 10.0.0.1, and same story. Latency being the big killer there, too

Ultimately, there's a cascading set of devices that, when they all induce latency, will significantly impact your game. Many things can affect this, like load (how many devices are streaming on your home network right now?), congestion (how many of your neighbors are streaming right now?)

You can also try -c 100 with a space, that's a strange one. I use ping -c100, 1k, 10k all the time
