Wasnt it confirmed that its in the works? I heard about a bunch of games getting leaked early (TF3 among them) and some of the games were confirmed (making me think TF3 would also be legit).

Now I could obviously just be out right wrong here, or I couldve been mislead, so I wouldnt get hopes up tooo high, but Im ngl my hopes have slightly elevated lol.

Never said it didn't, just saying it was a stupid release time for tf2, and although I love both tf games, it was really sucking stupid for ea/respawn to think that tf2 could compete with the 2 biggest and most anticipated fps games of the year

3

u/Mable-the-Table Jun 25 '22

*Cries for Battleborn*

1

u/AdmiralLubDub SmartPistolAficionado Jun 25 '22

I honestly don’t believe that. I think it can def hurt the game at launch but after 6 months or so a launch becomes meaningless and anybody who is interested in playing is already going to be playing within a years time. Unpopular opinion maybe but at the end of the day I think titanfall is just niche and will always be just a cult classic no matter what.

68

u/BioshockedNinja BRING BACK SNIPER CHAN Jun 25 '22

Respawn choose the release date themselves. They're the ones who decided they wanted to go head to head against CoD, the biggest FPS franchise in existence, for a sl8ce of that holiday spending pie. At the time Battlefield 1 was slated for a much earner release near the start or mid of that year. Unlucky for Respawn, Dice needed to delay the game to get it to a more acceptable state and they unsurprising opted to delay to the holiday season. And in all honesty, why wouldn't they? The holiday season has traditionally always been when the heaviest hitters in the video game industry drop.

As much as I love titanfall - the first game is still my all time favorite FPS - Respawn was unwise to big that release date. Even if Battlefield wasn't delayed they still would have had a huge chunk of their target audience snatched up by CoD. People online can make fun of it as much as they want but it consistently gets top of the sales every single release. And when someone who's into shooters only has $60 bucks and can only buy one game and have to choose between 2 well known juggernauts or the relatively unknown title from a newish studio is it any surprise they got slaughtered?

And that's not even getting into just how lackluster and poor of a first impression they made during the beta. Anyone else remember how it launched with a bug that made the movement - one of the biggest features that make titanfall standout from the competition - feel sluggish (specifically it reset acceleration when dismounting from a wallrun). And perhaps just as bad, they somehow choose the single worst map in the entire game to actually showcase the game's unique movement. Homestead isn't an innately bad map in that it's unique from all the other maps, but you have to admit, 2 bases surrounded by open fields is a terrible map to get new players to experiment and engage with the awesome movement mechanics. Of course they're just going to camp in the bases. If you're coming from a traditional shooter that's just going to come naturally. What titanfall 2 needed was an Angel City or Fracture tier map. When I played the titanfall 1 beta I walked away hyped as fuck. Instantly put in my preorder. Imagine, me already as a huge fan of the series who knowns what expect, walked away from 2's beta feeling worried and concerned, what were new people thinking?

Respawn 100% dropped the ball of Titanfall 2's launch and its largely their fault. If anything EA's only mistake here was not stepping in and forcing them to release at the start of the following year in Jan or Feb were there was virtually no competition with other shooters. Bonus points since Respawn could have taken their 6 week break during this delay instead immediately after release and would have been able to get out the balance patches the game desperately needed at release (holy shit the hemlock or Tone were unbalanced AF) instead of taking 8 weeks or so, during which countless new players probably called it quits after getting stomped by unbalanced weapons for so long.

I love titanfall, but damn there were a LOT of things Respawn could have done better with its launch and early post launch support.

it didn't add much other than the votekick changes. the skeletons are 60 fps now though 😎

they removed some of the exploits aimbots have been using, and improved the ban protections for the game

2

u/TheConqueringEnigma Jun 25 '22

That shit doesn't count. They let the game languish for years before updating it to a standard that is already obsolete. Don't give them any credit for half assed work

6

45

u/JustAnotherMark604 I've Got My Ion You Jun 25 '22

Why not make a Battle Royal with Wallrunning, Jump Jets and Titans

28

u/FartRipper17 Jun 25 '22

Respawn tried it but apparently the current formula worked better

6

u/Captain_Kuhl Jun 25 '22

When? Apex is free and capitalized on the battle royale craze, while they decided Titanfall 2 should be a paid title competing almost directly against Battlefield and CoD.

2

u/Azcabarqgamez Jun 25 '22

During development

18

u/TastySnackies Jun 25 '22

Work better probably means more appeal, to them. Having hero shooter mechanics as the core of the game instead of Titanfall casts a larger net of potential players. I think a wall-running, double-jumping, mech-based BR would probably work and be very fun. But it would also not be too large. EA definitely wouldn’t appreciate both TF2 and TFBR not “hitting expectations” twice in a row.

2

u/Visible_Young_9483 Jun 25 '22

It not being too large isn’t the problem, that kind of movement doesn’t work in BR. Would you rather have an actual chance at beating somebody that plays the game night and day, or would you rather have them do the craziest shit you’ve ever seen with that kind of movement, to the point where you can’t keep track of them at all, and die in 7 seconds flat.

1

u/UrticantOdin Jun 25 '22

That technically exists, but without the wall running and (mostly) double jumping, look for a game called super mecha champions (free)

1

u/DJToughNipples Jun 25 '22

Is there any more information or footage on this? I was always interested in titans in the battle royal.

1

u/FartRipper17 Jun 25 '22

It was during early development days and AFAIK there is no available footage

91

u/Beowolf193 Jun 25 '22

Love when players I get matched with talk about how Apex has the best movement system in any FPS. I cringe so hard. Its a got a good movement system yes but nothing compared to Titanfall.

44

u/SharpPixels08 Jun 25 '22

Everything becomes a lot cooler when you add a double jump

19

u/y_nnis Jun 25 '22

If you think that it's the double jump that makes TF2, you've been playing games wrong. Not just TF2 or Apex, all the games.

10

u/SharpPixels08 Jun 25 '22

Honestly I just said “Double jump” because it’s the one thing I know that Apex doesn’t have. I’ve literally never played it and know almost nothing about it

14

u/Getserious495 Jun 25 '22

Wall running too, except that one halloween event in Apex where dead people can wall run

3

u/Keycil wolrds best Jun 25 '22

They were able to double jump as well.

That's also the best event mode that has ever made its way into the game. Not counting control because it doesn't fit that description.

0

u/Garedbi69 haha Scorch goes War Crimes Jun 25 '22

Octane's jump pad allows you to double jump after using it...

5

u/SharpPixels08 Jun 25 '22

That’s an ability, not base kit.

1

u/LongGirthyVeiny Jun 25 '22

I was so disappointed when I first launched apex 1 day after the release and found out there's no double jump or wall running and the health pools are humongous ; (

5

u/The_Bucket_Of_Truth Jun 25 '22

I was stoked but also sad playing the Halloween event where you could wall run.

3

u/ushu3323 Jun 25 '22

Wait what? I was about to install apex(just because the movement lol), then i saw this.... i will give tf a try

8

u/Uhcoustic Jun 25 '22

it depends what you're looking for in movement. Tf2 does have a lot more zoom zoom

2

u/DarkWorld25 Jun 25 '22

tf2 is infinitely more fluid and is almost like mirrors edge in terms of chaining movement together

3

u/Uhcoustic Jun 25 '22

I think it depends what level you play each game at. Apex's movement is much more difficult to get the hang of, but you can - through a HUGE amount of practice - get some extremely fluid movement. However, you'll never really get walljumping/doublejumping/super fast stim like in tf2.
It's pretty much a different game. I'd say it has hands down the best movement of any FPS that's not specifically a movement shooter.

1

u/DarkWorld25 Jun 25 '22

Sure, but saying that it's the best movement of any FPS that isn't a movement shooter is like saying that it's the fastest runner out of a line up of engineers. If I'm playing a game for the movement then it's inherently going to be a movement based game, and if I'm not then there's better metrics by which to judge a game by. Using movement as Apex's selling point just doesn't make that much sense to me, especially since its worse than Ghostrunner's already terrible movement system and where other games cough cough overwatch also has great movement.

Nonetheless Apex will never come close to TF|2's movement in terms of fluidity and chaining stuff together.

2

u/Uhcoustic Jun 25 '22

well, yes and no. Apex is fundamentally a different game- and if that's the kind of game you want, then it's good to know it also has great movement. Arena shooters like TF2 are a lot of fun, but they aren't the only genre. I know people who specifically dislike that format of multiplayer.

2

u/endexe more like shitfire amiright Jun 25 '22

But it should be noted that Apex’ movement is a lot more complex and intricate, since gunfights are contained in tighter spaces. So I do understand when people positively compare it to TF’s.

9

u/Milkofmann Jun 25 '22

It’s missing a lot lmao compared to TF

-2

u/endexe more like shitfire amiright Jun 25 '22

Tell me what Apex is “missing” and I’ll tell you what TF is “missing”.

4

u/Bagellllllleetr Jun 25 '22

Not trying to shit on Apex. It’s a great game. But I’ve always felt it’s TF lite in comparison to TF. That’s for more reasons than just movement mind you. Obviously they are apples and oranges, but Apex is built on TF2’s bones.

4

u/Milkofmann Jun 25 '22

Apex is missing wall running, double jump, the gunplay in apex isn’t as good as it was in TF (but I guess that’s more of a preference). I would have liked something that had to do with Titans or even the slightest bit with the lore since supposedly apex takes place in the same universe as TF2. I mean that’s just the beginning

6

u/Hresvelgr01 Jun 25 '22

It's not more complex or more intricate

1

u/endexe more like shitfire amiright Jun 25 '22

…any arguments for that? Or just fetching for Upvotes?

1

u/Hresvelgr01 Jun 25 '22

Titanfall has all the movement options of apex wall running and double jumping to the mix. Several advanced movement technique such as air strafing do not exist while other techniques like bunny hopping has been nerfed

-1

u/VanTrHamster Jun 25 '22

Air strafing exists lmao

3

u/Hresvelgr01 Jun 25 '22

Heavily nerfed and rather different to how it functions in Titanfall.

0

u/VanTrHamster 26d ago

Angle/Sec turnspeed is literally the same and it functions the same way: strafe left/right + turn left/right. Do you even know what airstrafing is?

1

u/Hresvelgr01 26d ago

Yes. I do. I use it all the time in both games. It is much more effective in Titanfall

0

u/VanTrHamster 24d ago

It literally isn't. The angle/sec speed is dogshit compared to source games, which is why they introduced lurch to titanfall. Even if turnspeed was faster in titanfall, you can bind forward to scroll wheel in apex, making tap-strafing significantly more effective, amplifying the turnspeed of airstrafing. If your sens is high enough, you can do a 360 without losing momentum.

0

u/endexe more like shitfire amiright Jun 25 '22

The thing with apex is that it’s much more about decision-making. In TF, doing more things faster is almost always better. That’ll get you killed in Apex. Sliding, climbing, strafing,… relatively trivial actions in Titanfall are very important in Apex, because even the smallest actions can decide whether you’ll perform great. Apex is different in that it rewards movement during gunfights, not in between ones.

0

u/Hresvelgr01 Jun 25 '22

What??? What does any of that have anything to do with the intricacy of the movement systems of each game

1

u/endexe more like shitfire amiright Jun 25 '22

I don’t know what’s so hard to understand. Movement goes hand in hand with combat. If combat doesn’t reward movement, it wouldn’t be considered a movement shooter. The more it rewards movement, and the more options you have when it comes to moving around effectively, the better the overall movement system is. That’s how I would define it. And while in TF you have more options (e.g. double jumps), Apex puts more importance on your movements and how you execute them in relations to combat, so I’d call it more complex than TF, where more often than not, simply engaging swiftly is enough to settle a gunfight.

1

u/Hresvelgr01 Jun 25 '22

Apex does not put more importance on movements. The time to kill is longer. Titanfall both rewards movement more, because movement is what can keep you alive with the low time to kill, and has more options for movement

0

u/Captain_Kuhl Jun 25 '22

You get that Apex has basically nothing in the way of tight spaces, right? The buildings are either too cramped for TF2-style maneuvering or too spread-out, and most of the map is a wide-open killzone.

0

u/endexe more like shitfire amiright Jun 25 '22

If you’re talking about Apex now, because I honestly can’t quite tell, you’re completely off. In Apex, long range combat is called “poking” for a reason, because you usually don’t actually kill anyone from these ranges. Close range is where gunfights are settled, and where the depth and importance of movement shines.

0

u/Keycil wolrds best Jun 25 '22

People think just because you can't wallrun or double jump 24/7 the movement instantly becomes less deep. I'd like to see them win a 1v1 against a Horizon with the same aim as theirs but expert movement.

It’s not too crazy, considering it has huge fan support, it’s free, it has more micro-transactions, and is a battle royale

It's funny to me that tf players say that apex is shitter because it has more microtransactions despite the fact that you can play Apex without ever spending a dime

5

It... isn't? Sorry to break it to you, but TF2 isn't as profitable. And while it may be imoral to neglect a game and let it die, as long as they keep it alfoat, their job is done, they did what they wanted with the game, the dev cycle is over. May suck, but we have to get over it and most importantly, over our "APEX BAAAAAAAAD!!!1!!+!+!11+!!!!" phase.

Ok but wouldn’t it be cool if apex had titans instead? Just 100 mechs battling it out over a huge map, and if you lose your titan you could eject and get them back

1

u/Codytheprotogen1 Jun 25 '22

Originally apex was going to be titanfall 3

1

u/UberTheSniper Jun 25 '22

Yeah but then the whole battle royale trend started and they went with that

0

u/FartRipper17 Jun 25 '22

They tried it and found the current formula to be better

1

u/UberTheSniper Jun 25 '22

Yeah but it probably would have been really cool and also it would make more sense, considering how you don’t meet an apex predator in titanfall outside of their titan, and how apex legends is essentially a selection for who gets to join

1

u/GulliblePineapple795 Jun 25 '22

Uuggghh apex is part of the titanfall timeline

6

u/thebohemiancowboy Jun 25 '22

Yeah it’s weird to me. This drab military sci-fi setting to a cartoony overwatch type heroshooter

5

u/FartRipper17 Jun 25 '22

It's almost as people need entertainment now that the war is over

2

u/MerkavaMkIVM None Jun 25 '22

Stop reminding me.

-2

u/Secramor Jun 25 '22

Apex is trash

0

u/drluv2099 Jun 25 '22

Apex is for commoners, titanfall is for kings.

Just kidding apex fans it's a great game love you all.

-2

u/FancyxSkull Jun 25 '22

It only became popular because of Titanfall mechanics 😌

0

u/JohnyGlizzyeater Jun 25 '22

I don't hate Apex I just wish Respawn wouldn't consider it a good enough replacement for Titanfall

What's is this about?

1

u/BillSlank Jun 25 '22

A free AAA tier game? Yeah, no shit. Titanfall release was timed so terribly people thought it was on purpose.

1

u/CorvidCelestial Walking tank, Ogre class Jun 25 '22

titanfall hasn’t been an extremely popular series tbf, and Apex dropped around the fall of battle royales

1

u/Abraheezee Jun 25 '22

I thought this was about Fall Guys landing on Switch and XBox. ✊😂

1

u/AL3X1KUS Jun 25 '22

ape sex, go back to monke!

based in the same universe /=/ spinoff

1

u/RezonanceEternal Jun 25 '22

then titanfall 2 get released on steam

1

u/Gasmaskguy101 Jun 26 '22

The devs and community were so intertwined with all the little banners and stuff…. That game just doesn’t feel “Titanfall” and it makes me a little sad.

-1

u/Mr-JDogg Jun 25 '22

Respawn just jumped on the BR bandwagon

7

u/suckmypppapi Jun 25 '22

And it worked out far more than Titanfall ever did. You can't just cry and say "but Titanfall better apex sucks!", Respawn has valid reason to pay every bit of attention to apex with the money it's raking in

3

u/Brmemesrule None Jun 25 '22

This for fucks sake. People act like pumping resources and manpower into TF2 would be a wiser business choice than Apex. It hurts, but, just stop and think people. What's best for you may not be the actual best choice.

1

u/DpBAMF Jun 25 '22

And made a solid addition to the genre

-22

u/Boraxsizslime Jun 25 '22 edited Jul 04 '22

well they tried to make titanfall 3 but it came out with the name bf2042

edit: i know it isn't but bf2042 looked pretty titanfall/apex to me

16

u/FartRipper17 Jun 25 '22

You do realize respawn isn't dice right

0

u/Intelligent-Age2786 Jun 25 '22

Give us Titanfall 3 with Apex Legends characters apart of the story and make all the lore have a reasoning for an actual story game and not just a BR

0

u/PaddyObanion Jun 25 '22

I genuinely hope bad things happen to Apex players
