Cat abandon kittens all the time. At my parents place there have been at least 3 separate kittens we have found abandoned near our house. Usually they are abandoned in places a human wouldn't without us noticing like our shed between pieces of fire wood. There has also been a few cases of kittens being abandoned on our farm by other cats unrelated to ours.
We always end up taking care of them in some way. Sometimes when one of our cats had a litter of kittens at the same time we manage to sneak the kitten in to suckle on the mommy cat.

Don't mama cats hide kittens so they can go hunt? Are you sure they were abandoned?
13
u/TiggyHiggs Aug 08 '21
Fairly sure. I don't know why they would leave a single kitten in an area with unfamiliar cats and dogs. We even found one in the side of a busy road near our house. If they hide their kittens don't they normal hide them together?

My cat did this too. We visited my dads house when he was dying and saw my cat with a baby in the Bush. My cat is a tuxedo cat with grey fur while the other one was black and white. All by itself with no siblings. We saw it’s mom a few weeks later but then she stopped looking. Then my cat got pregnant and her experience made her a good mom.

One of my cats does this all the time. There is a huge communal garden at the back of my home where lots of the neighbourhood cats will roam. Most get along quite well as they are used to sharing the space. Every time a kitten moves into a nearby house my cat will bring it home and try and adopt it.
She gets in and out through my bedroom window, so now I have to check under the bed for random spare cats before closing the window at night.
You know you are officially a crazy cat lady when your cats have cats.
