As far as self-victimizing goes, I definitely know what that looks like. I did it quietly to myself for over a decade and still do it sometimes. My mother had to go to therapy because of it, and my brother struggles with it because he was born with one arm.

I've argued this before in an effort to highlight how arbitrary the age of consent laws are. In all honesty, the age of consent should probably be 25 since the frontal lobe--the part of the brain that deals with logic and reasoning--isn't fully developed until that point.

This implicitly means anyone under 25 soliciting a younger minor would only be guilty of statutory rape (assuming they were successful). A counter to this might be setting goalposts, for example: an 18 year old hitting on a 14 year old being a lesser offense compared to a 15 year old molesting a 9 year old.

In any case, I think it's important to emphasize that pedophiles aren't automatically rapists. Many know how fucked up they are, but avoid getting help out of fear. Those who actively seek aid for their problems are ostracized and often beaten or murdered instead of being pitied & treated by a mental healthcare professional.

All of this falls on deaf ears though because we choose to demonize them, with pedophiles illiciting in most people a zero tolerance policy of execution.
