Is the experience of drinking alcohol so fundamentally a unique experience that it's difficult to explain how alcohol makes you feel if you have never tried it?

I guess what I'm trying to get at is, as far as you can tell, is drinking worth the experience? Is it so enriching that it's worth experiencing despite its very significant drawbacks? In short, are teetotalers missing out on a lot?
