I was incredibly naive about salary when I went into radiology. I honestly didn’t even think about it. Some friends told me hospitalists made $250-300,000 a year and I thought, man, it would be nice to make that much, I bet radiologists make at least that. I just knew the hours were decent and I liked the job. When I found out what radiologists actually earn, I was pleasantly surprised.

It’s a common strategy for residents and has been successful at UMichigan for example.

Someone will buy it. There are people out there who $405 is nothing and will buy it.

The more people who get vaccinated, the more ‘breakthrough’ cases there will be.

Someone posted a really good article about the “Simpson effect” yesterday, and why talking about the number of breakthrough cases can skew the numbers for vaccine effectiveness.

Whenever I’m asked why I don’t believe in a benevolent, loving God, I just tell them about all the kids I’ve seen with horrible, horrible cancer. Or the young adults who get cancer. One of my most salient memories from residency was going to get a 22 year old woman for a liver biopsy, who likely had widely metastatic breast cancer, and her holding her 8 week old infant, while her 2 and 4 year olds played next to her.

Try being consistent before you use PEDs. They aren’t magic if you don’t have the motivation to begin with.

Rads here. I think that’s stomach. You see layering contents, free air doesn’t do that. I’d probably call this normal. Really hard to tell on a phone though.

I’ve seen several murdered infants and children as a radiologist.

My good friend who is a pediatrician said the worst thing he’s seen is an infant who was raped so violently that they had a recto-vaginal fistula that had to be repaired in the OR.

There are evil people out there.

I have only heard anecdotes like this.

I have never seen these stories backed with actual statistics.

The statistics always show a much much different story.

99.9% of the time someone thinks they see something, it’s nothing, and it really just makes me more aware of how much training goes into being a radiologist.

Case in point, a tech called me last week to say they thought they saw an acute GI bleed. It was a penis pump reservoir.

The other 0.01% of the time, it’s something painfully obvious I’m being slowed down by being told instead of making the finding myself.

I got my third yesterday.

If y’all are in a bind, don’t know what’s going on or just busy as hell and need to rule out badness, I have zero problem with it. Please just be honest with me. I remember asking a surgical intern why he pan scanned someone in the SICU, and he said “Listen man, I’m sorry, I’m cross covering 70 patients, I don’t know this guy and nursing called me worried and he just doesn’t look good. I just need to know he’s not gonna die of something I’m not thinking of.” Honestly, I’m 100% about backing you up in that situation. It’s people just being fucking lazy that gets me.
