You just need some tweeking. Getting the face to look rounder, curved and not too flat takes a lot of practice. With acrylics, detail can be tough, it requires a lot of mixing to get shadow & light, with tone, correct. Once you get the depth added to make the face realistic, the paintings (you're other one, with Lamar, has the same missing depth) will have the aesthetic you're going for - but as-is they lack that finishing touch! You've got this though!

I think the most logical thing to do is test if it could be coming from the dog.

Close your pet out of several rooms, do not allow them to be in there for a few days, then check for these black spots/spatters. The more rooms the better, so that if those walls are mostly clean (some spots could be missed) and the open ones have the amount of "goo" increase, there is a more definite positive correlation.

You may want to check your country's laws for retail items received in error.
