I’m on this sub now because I’m listening to BNW for the first time in about ten years, and the production is just hitting me so hard. The drums being the standout here, near-perfectly produced.

The vocals, though matured beyond Bruce’s 80’s work to become something else entirely, sound so controlled and effortless. I’m really impressed because I thought nostalgia was the main factor in my memory of this album. It’s really good.

Evolutionarily might not be a very common form, but it is at least shaped like an adverb. Adverbs give information about a verb -> ‘he is walking evolutionarily’.

The point is that for most Dutch people, telling someone in any words that they’re a fucking idiot will be impolite. You’re just trying to hide behind a facade of politeness while still trying to insult someone. This is seen as insincere and reflects badly on the person dealing the insult.

Classic Dutch directness is meant as a courtesy, signaling that you respect the other person enough to not twist your words around. Even when they’re a fucking idiot.

Note: this is mostly implicit. Dutch people often do not realize that they do this, and will be surprised if someone (not Dutch) tells them they are being rude. Because in their experience, they are conforming to an accepted societal standard of courtesy that they grew up with.
