Look, here's the thing, MGS lore is absolutely insane, even if this film only does the first game they might have to include the cowboy guy who gets his arm chopped off by a robot ninja, the telepathic flying bloke. And both of those two have even more complex backstories which involve possession by a ghost because genetics and giant fire whales.

Mgs is a deeply self serious but also wholly ridiculous game and it might honestly be simply impossible to balance that tone in cinema properly.
