Late ‘70s, we had a “hobby day,” where students talked about something they’re passionate about and brought in visuals. A guy in the class ahead of me just asked the principal if it was ok to bring in his shotgun and talk about bird hunting. The only caveat the principal added was for that student to come to the office with a parent and check it, along with some shells, and then pick it up by himself prior to the presentation. The principal’s main concern wasn’t that that student would be alone with a shotgun and ammo, but that all the students would be in the hallway between classes with a firearm circulating. The presenter was a completely trustworthy guy, they just didn’t want some knucklehead to grab it from him as a joke and then have an issue.
