I don’t know if I am allowed to post this here, but it seems to have worked with some people. Don’t get me wrong, some of my followers are really, really mad. But I’ve gotten a few messages from people who decided to get vaccinated or sent it to family members who decided, so I wanted to share.

COMMENT 25d ago

Since everybody went crazy over my video yesterday, I wrote something for The Atlantic to explain why I believe freedom comes with responsibility. Throughout American history, that’s always been the case, until now. This selfishness we are seeing really worries me because I don’t know how we can come together to take on the next challenge if we throw fits about a little mask.

But I also have hope. I realize that the angry people who told me freedom doesn’t come with duty are the minority. They’re very loud, but 3/4 of the response to my video was positive. Always remember the angry people online are like peacocks and they’re very good at making enough noise that you think they’re bigger than they are.

Think about it as protecting the people who can’t be vaccinated instead of the people who won’t be.

I’m leaving the how long question to experts.

That was my way of life when I got vaccinated, but now that we’ve seen that the variant can spread with vaccinated people, I have no problem going back to wearing a mask when I go somewhere inside. It’s always in my pocket, so if I stop at a coffee shop on my bike ride, I put it on for a few minutes to order, then walk out.

I had a conversation with Alex Vindman yesterday about his book and I was asked about my old Facebook comment about misinformation that has been going viral (I do not know how to share that photo so maybe someone else can). This was my answer.

I film movies, I support my three platforms for giving back, After-School All-Stars, the USC Schwarzenegger Institute, and the Schwarzenegger Climate Initiative, I invest in things I’m passionate about, I run the Arnold Sports Festivals and occasionally I give speeches around the world. My job is being Arnold. Definitely not retired, that might be my second least favorite phrase after self-made man.

I did everything. I put up fliers for the gym, recruited members and took their cash, cleaned it every day. I didn’t have many angry members because not that many people used gyms then, so it was mostly wrestlers, flight attendants, and American military guys. I did have a long flier battle with the rival gym where we woke up earlier and earlier to paste our fliers over the other gym’s.

Instead of beating yourself up, try doing one assignment, or one small exercise, and then celebrate it. Write it down: Today I had two big wins. I did 20 pushups when I got out of bed and I did an assignment instead of looking at Reddit. Keep track of your wins every day. Tell me how it goes after a month.

Well I didn’t buy a gym, I managed a gym, and I lived in a cot in a tiny room in the gym. So that alone might make you feel better, because now at least you know I didn’t become rich at 19. I didn’t have enough money to buy anything until 1974 when I bought my 5 unit apartment building with the $27,000 I’d saved and a $10,000 loan from Joe Weider. I spent a year in Munich as a trainer and gym manager and 6 years in LA laying bricks before that. Yes, I achieved my bodybuilding goals during that time, but don’t forget, one of my goals was also to be a millionaire. And bodybuilding didn’t make money. A lot of times, comparing yourself to other people can make it seem like success is fast. When I looked at Reg Park when I was young, I was positive he was a millionaire. Success is never as fast as it seems when you’re looking at someone who is already successful. It’s slow. As long as you love what you do and you’re learning and growing, keep going.

Thank you. Some of my friends let me know about the current rise in intolerance, and I won’t stand for that, so I thought there was no better day to send a message than on Fredi’s birthday.

It is! Give me some context. Working hard at fitness or a job? Is it a job you love, that fits the vision of who you want to be?
