Do you include your mortgage payment (what goes towards principal) in your SR %?

Switched from upstream oil and gas service to a major midstream/pipeline operator. The real money is working in construction getting that sweet per diem on a travel job.

Not true. Hiring should be based on merit, not skin color, gender, sexual orientation, or (dis)ability.
The only things that should matter are: 1. Can you do the job? 2. Are you likable & a team player?

If you’re looking for a concentration that will get you a job where you travel a lot, I’d say geotech then. If you get on with a geotech subcontractor then you’ll bounce from project to project in a specific region. Lots of flights, staying in hotels & expense reports.

I just did crystal beach on Sunday and there was hardly anyone there. Saturdays are usually mad

I look at a decent amount of construction bids, and usually we deal with lump sum. Sometimes there’s the occasional time and material, but that’s not usually the case.
With the bid, the GC will include a breakdown of how many employees they plan to bring on site, the roles, and their billable rate. So the owner shouldn’t be bitching about you charging to the project, really under normal circumstances that would be your project manager trying to stay within his budget so he can get a bonus.
Usually with field positions like that, the main worry is about what project is next. Making sure that the biz dev guys can get more work for you. Not trying to justify your job. If you’re at a GC as an FE then your main job is documentation lol & learning from the superintendents from your subcontractors

Yup, can confirm CNX also does this. Some of their RE’s are like savant level smart too. So they’re really only taking the best, and the ones who are bringing actual innovative ideas to the table

I have 3 criteria that I judge a new city by whenever I’m there.
- I get a good steak at a steakhouse.
- I go to some local breweries and try something new.
- Rooftop bar.
Other than that, golf/top golf , going to an actual gym, going to parks (state/national are best), hiking if possible, & fishing. Some of the older guys get massages since their bodies usually ache.

Hahha pretty much. Renewables paid better is the weird part. Went from $165 down to $110. A little less than half the hours though which I felt was worth it. Plus no more living out in the middle of nowhere

COMMENT 9d ago
No, like transmission/pipeline. I meant oil and gas when I said energy. I used to work in renewables so I usually refer to myself as an energy industry engineer

Owner side. Not utility, further upstream

Reneging an offer will put you on a do not hire list at that company, so if that’s a company you have a strong desire to someday work at, then you should just take it now. But you’re right, now that you’ve laid your cards out on the table that you’re unhappy with your role at your current company, they’re going to look at you a little differently. Think of it from a managerial perspective, would you give a high profile project to an employee who you don’t trust to stick around?
There’s nothing wrong with a little job hopping early in your career. Now is the time to do it.
