At the end of the day if you give players full control they’re going to min/max all variety out of the world. I can already imagine getting people bitching every dungeon run because I chose to use an “un optimal” healing skill set or whatever. At least with classes they already know you’re a Druid and will either just suck it up or leave.

My GF got really into WoW Classic than me. It was her first MMO and she kept playing it for weeks after I quit but eventually she quit too. Why? She said every dungeon she got pressured into using shadow spec and sacrificing her succubus because using the summons (whom she loved and still remembers all the names of) was “unoptimal”
