You can shoot superman-style laser beams from your eyes once a year. What do you save it for?

Hollllly crap this is exactly what I needed! My dryer also vents through the roof and it's a huge PITA to clean the line. This will make things so much easier. Thanks for the tip!

It's more like several smaller boxes that have formed a collective consciousness. Plus all the drawers, shelves and flat surfaces. It's always spreading and growing.

Yeah the adapter worked great, when I eventually got one. I think I just left my KB plugged in with the adapter until one day it just wasn't an issue anymore.

Ah yes. The Box of Many Cables. Every legacy adapter and power cable you can think of, and then some. Someday my sons will inherit The Box and in turn their own children as well. It is my greatest legacy.

I wonder if I even still have my USB > ps/2 adapter haha!

This. I remember keeping a ps/2 keyboard on hand just to interrupt boot because the USB one never worked. Nowadays it's all good though.

I developed a love of cooking when I was around 20 and by the time I met my wife I think that was one of the things that won her over. Great way to relax!

I picked up baking about 6 years ago and it opened the door to many many more fun recipes.

It's nice to have a hobby well outside my usual go-to of computers, gadgets, Lego, etc. And my family certainly enjoys the results!

What hobbies/interests have you developed as an adult that you had no interest in as a kid?

Infrastructure eng here. Can confirm. Most of my day is filled with python, yaml, and groovy. Locked into the same sprints as the devs we support.

What's the worst decision you ever made that seemed like a good idea at the time?

Yeah I saw the ASR review and considered those speakers for a little bit, but thought I could get a bit more sound if I bumped my budget a bit. Probably worth picking up now that I have the Eris 4.5 and I can do a direct comparison.

Do they hiss at all? I sit about a foot away from my speakers and the constant hiss is what really bugs me.

Thanks for the tip on the Neumi, haven't looked at those ones yet. Found a pretty comprehensive review but I don't understand half of it hahah.

Hey all!

TLDR: My AV40s kicked the bucket and I'm looking for replacement speakers for my computer. Hit me with your best near-field recommendations under $200, active or passive. Mostly music (synthwave, EDM) and games

Long version:
Been pretty happy with my AV40s for the last few years but they (likely) blew a cap and I'm not handy enough to fix it myself (nor do I have the equipment). I fell back to using my old lepai/dayton B652 combo while I search for something new. I picked up the Presonus Eris 4.5 last week while they were on sale (been watching prices for a while) and I'm not totally wowed by them. I thought that I would love them right off the bat but they've had a bit of crackling and hissing no matter where I plug them in and I never had those issues with my Dayton. (Don't recall if I had problems with the MA AV40, been months since those blew). I work from home so my speakers are almost always in use. Lots of music and games. Anything from 80s pop to synthwave and metal. Separation and vocals and sparkle are important to me.

What I'm looking for:
- Active or passive, doesn't matter. I just want good sound. (good separation, depth, vocals)
- I sit about a foot away from my speakers, so would like good sound at mid-low volume. I rarely go over 50% on my preamp.
- Under $200.
- NO HISS or static or any noise.

Considering:
- Edifier R1280T
- Presonus Eris 4.5 (if I can get rid of the hiss)
- Just keep the Daytons until I can afford something $500+?
- Anything you folks recommend!

What's the most risky thing you've done (or would do) with 50/50 odds?
