I would almost prefer he was just an entitled capitalist so he would fuck off outta the office so we could get actual work done instead of having to waste 10 minutes out of every hour dealing with his latest effort to "help". Dude is going to work until the day he dies, and probably is about as efficient as if he just worked 3-4 days a week instead.

Try not to use regular brick. Not only is it a poor choice for a thermal insulator it also will crack or at worst explode if there are pockets of water or air in them. However, for a coal forge, just starting the fire in a pile of coal with normal bricks keeping the mound contained won't be an issue at all.
