Sure, my mates were angry at local government. It was all really horrible and they just wanted to have police to stop it. The guy in Chicago wanted the army. I still don't think the guys who robed my mates had anything to with Trump. This was in cali and Chicago, both democrat states.
Normally when there are riots Asian stores get looted. Regardless of government. This has been true for close to a century. If you do not believe me just google it.

I don't think my mates getting their shops looted during BLM had anything to do with Trump. Might be wrong. I think it was just shitty people taking advantage of a situation. I doubt they watch the news.

Most my mates live in San Fran and LA. They are all in tech. They make great money. My mates in LA had a violent riots outside their condo. Couldn't leave. When the election came up I had friends receiving letter not to step outside.
Imagine getting a letter from your landlord saying "Do not go outside". That would be enough for me to leave.
edit: I am from Hong Kong and I knew multiple people who had their stores wrecked during the BLM protest. In Cali and in Chicago. One was a corner store and the other a jewelry shop. It is horrible and horrific. I know maybe a 100 Americans and 2 of my close mates got raided. I obviously told my folks, my Dad said they were target cause they were asian. Never crossed my mind but I hate this but I think he was right.
You don't really hear from the shop owners during the BLM shit but if you have Asian american friends you certainly did.

I am from Hong Kong so I have loads but when I was teenager in the 90s the song that really rocked me Ultramania by Seo Taji. I think culturally it hit as we all grew up with American culture in the background but were still expected to act in a traditional manner.
I used to listen to loads of Thai rap, HK rap and metal (both are insanely rude), I even have cassettes of Malaysian hard rock (think Metalica) which is impossible to find now.

I would say hang out with people who you would like to be like.
You wanna be a party person with a huge network? Hang out with people like that.
You wanna get good grades? Hang out with the kids in the library and fucking study.
Want to be a bit of both? Well, those exist too <- this is my group
The truth is, college is hard enough. So much shit is happening, your normal social network is a world away. If you are able to pass your first year then you are a huge success already.

If you want real advice about a product you want to buy find the subreddit dedicated to, Pcmasterrace and audiophile will take a complete newbie and help them make good purchasing decisions.
Just google "product name reddit" and you will get the best reviews. It could be tractors to blenders, reddit got you covered.

Nah, it is not really about the place but I lived in Hong Kong, Thailand, Egypt and Sri Lanka. All very different places and I was at different stages in my life in all of them.
What I am really trying to say if you are a minority and you stick out and if you are a man, I think it is universally true you will get jumped at least once.
I was the biggest kid in almost every school I went to and guys loved randomly starting on me. Getting a punch in the gut as they walked by, waiting outside of school etc All trying to take down the big blonde boy.

Yeah, I moved about a bunch growing up to some pretty poor countries. Growing up with child beggars down the road you really understand how lucky you are just by pure chance of birth.

That's tough. I moved about a bunch growing up. I am happy for my experiences but I think you are right. Stability is is a huge comfort.
Best of luck.

I try and talk in averages on Reddit because otherwise you alienate people.
If I get specific people get hung up on the details and not on what I am trying to communicate.
I still believe what I am saying. If you are poor in a developed country you can relate better to a normal person in a developing country. Getting electricity cut off, taking public transport and having to save up for food. Those are common experiences. I might be wrong but I think there is something to true to what I am trying to communicate.

I was born in Hong Kong but lived in Pattaya (Thailand) and Alexandria (Egypt) when I was growing up. Hong Kong was a paradise.

That sounds tough. I like your perspective. I hope life give back everything you put in.
How do find moving around as a kid? Is it something you would choose for you own?

You missed the country.
I promise you where I was brought up with that colouring you would get beaten.

COMMENT 4d ago
Of course not but if you had a choice you would choose a wealth develop country.
My family got very recently out of poverty. I grew up across Asia and Africa. The poverty I saw that I knew was a generation from me. That shit is terrifying. All it takes is one fuck up and we are back there.
I think the American shop worker getting treated like shit has more in common than they realize with people in the developing world in the city.
In the city we have travel cards but who has the money to put the deposit down for that card. So we travel more expensively on single tickets.
I think many Americans can relate to that experience.
When I did get the the money deposit for the travel card I cashed it in at least once a once a month.

I am an ardent believer of change. I support it. I have no idea where it will go but I have faith in humans. Let's see where it will go!
I was describing what it was like. Adam Curtis did a good documentary to describe it. I highly recommend getting a bit stoned and watching that.
I speak to everyone and I love the real world too. I have been late to house parties cause I was talking to a guy on the streets.
It's been fun chatting with you.

The internet back in the 80s or early 90s used to be where we escaped for a feeling of acceptance. I logged on from Asia and spoke to people from all over the world. The geeks getting bullied had a place.
The internet used to be the place where you were judged on your interactions and not on your identity.
The only reason I am saying this cause I thought it was special. It was to me.
