I'm not trying to say one French word is the same as another, but to my knowledge they have been used interchangeably in English. Again, that is not to say everyone from everywhere has, but maybe a big enough portion of people to influence the designated meaning in English. Or maybe I'm in the minority and most people know the difference, I don't know, I'm just curious

I'm not going to explain current age ritual sacrifice practices to someone in a brothel, you might get unwholesome ideas.

It comes down to the quality and choice of ingredients. In the supermarket everything is super refined, has less vitamins, preservatives are added and more unhealthy fats. Also all ingredients fluctuate for calories depending on type and source. If you take the average frozen pizza cheese and some quality bocconcini, you'll see two entirely different worlds in that alone.

If you go and buy a meatlover's pizza at the supermarket you're eating trans fats, refined carbs, preservatives out the wazoo and not getting a lot of nutrients (which leads to many issues including increased frequency of eating). If you eat a gourmet meatlover's you're getting protein, lower GI carbs and some essential fats.

It's also important to note that not all calories are equal, even higher calories from healthier food will get your body functioning better which leads to less fat retention.

As I write I am realising how incredibly complicated it all is and editing out masses of detail, I just got spoon fed the info daily for years while studying health and nutrition. In short try to cook food at home and if you are very poor try to grow food at home (it's HEAPS easier than you think to have a tomato and herb garden!).

Always good to learn more about an uncommon cultural practice, thanks :)

Wait until you learn about Eid!

Thanks! I never knew that.

EDIT: I put it through google translate, and "gourmet gourmand" turns into "gourmet gourmet". I guess in English they just took both to mean the same thing?

Here in Australia I can go and get a rather satisfying large pizza for $3.25 at the supermarket. It's yummy and cheap and full of carbs and fat.

If I wanted to construct my own healthier pizza from scratch, it would cost me about $8 per pizza, but then you obviously end up not using all the ingredients you purchase so wastage comes into play plus you need the knowledge to construct it yourself and it takes time.

OR I could go to a gourmand pizza place and buy one for $25 that is much healthier, marginally better tasting and no more filling.

Basically the economical choice for poor people is to be fat.

I do, and it is. Everyone has food and medical care etc., but the government is forever watching and controlling every step you take, with the citizens fanatically eager to report even the most minor transgression.

Nobody looks happy, everyone exists only to work and then to retreat to their homes in case bands of roving youths, who are immune to the law, attack.

Mental health problems are less frequent in active war zones than the general population, but don't worry about that! The ever caring government will fund the correct medication to make sure you can still contribute.

Oh, and it occasionally burns to cinders.

Viet Nam has always hated China, it's just that Viet Nam wouldn't exist without China's aid. China even invaded them not long after the war. They are just mutually beneficial enemies.

Yeah I hate when those pesky Russians show what's happening in the world, it's be much better if all our news only came from one source and was government approved to protect my biases /s

But it also begs the question: if people don't know anything about running a country then why can they vote either? It all boils down to a popularity contest then, which means the people in charge need to be popular enough to get voted in again in order to accomplish anything (can't do much of anything substantial for a country's long-term development in 5 years).

Why no-one in America was arrested as part of Operation Ironside is the big one recently, but there have been a few big ones over the past few years, often to do with online pedos and other drug busts.

Note that these are all before we (very recently) just gave them powers to alter what's on a target's device, so get ready for more!

Australian police have been making a lot of headlines over the past year or so with international busts. This is because laws that restrict police activity are also very low compared to a lot of Western countries, so they can do things like hack communications and use them for evidence under circumstances where it would not be possible in places such as the US or UK.

This is Australia's niche, and it raises quite a few geopolitical questions.

The whole selling point of lockdown in VIC was that you would be a hero by staying home and getting pissed all day. There's something entirely evil about the government searching your care packages and confiscating excess joy.

That's some capitalist Kool-Aid. The happiest people I've met by far are people who don't need to work. Most of them still do, on their own terms, or focus on their passions or do charity which gives them great satisfaction.

Even myself - I can't do my job now because we're in lockdown, so I planted a whole ton of trees, learnt how to brew beer, did up my garden, programmed a game I've been wanting to make for 10 years, started working out again and greatly honed my cooking skills amongst many other pursuits. It's the most satisfied I've been with my life and I have absolutely 0 fear of starving to death.
