I wouldn't be surprised if most religious writings are just slightly altered variations of existing stories.

Maybe if he serves the cat some bootstraps it will finally get a fucking job.

Kind of interesting how much karma this post has and yet most of the comments seem to shit all over it.

I suspect that they could build another one cheaper if this one explodes. Most of the cost and delays were because they had to literally invent half the technologies in it before they could even build it.

The article is on the the independent. Yahoo appears to aggregate it.

Nice, that looks promising!

Is there a best practice method to power on/off more than one device?

That's also a possibility. It would explain why the front fell off.

What would be the target audience of hurd? Is there anything in particular it could do better than linux?

Unless we figure out how to easily build space elevators there is simply no way to get those minerals back to earth. Lifting stuff out of gravity wells as deep as Earth or Mars is insanely wasteful.

You take that back!

I have never seen it publicised like that anywhere. Doesn't look like they made any justification up at all, they just kept silent. I mean why would they? This doesn't exactly make them look good, because it demonstrates that they intentionally lied. Making something like this up doesn't make sense.

It has always been pretty damn obvious that masks work at least a little bit to prevent infection. Doctors have been using them for a hundred years. There is literally no reason for them to call the efficacy of masks into question other than to reduce demand.

I've been hearing somewhat mixed opinions. I've heard some people say the lower decks writers understand trek better than the ones who write for the other stuff. But I guess that's not a high bar.

I honestly think Generations and First Contact are okay. They have lots of flaws though and some of the character writing was...problematic. But everything that came after felt like they just stopped trying altogether.

I think they were desperately trying to reduce demand for masks from the general public to ensure there were enough left for medical professionals.

Somewhat understandable act of desperation at the time, considering that a collapse of the health system due to sick workers would have been catastrophic. But in the long term it seems like a horrible idea.
