They do pay taxes

1

COMMENT 24m ago

Without their tax return, we really don’t know how much tax they pay each year

1

COMMENT 26m ago

It’s because they had no taxable income

1

COMMENT 27m ago

It already is

COMMENT 30m ago

It’s a lie that Amazon didn’t pay taxes in 2017

1

COMMENT 35m ago

It’s not all evasion though. Most of it is legal and ends up being allowed after the IRS looks into it

The media

They already do

COMMENT 52m ago

Sorry, but there’s no way you’re paying more tax than billionaires

Corporations don’t make our laws

COMMENT 1h ago

They are paying taxes though, and they pay relatively high wages

1

COMMENT 1h ago

Amazon avoids taxes through losses, stock compensation, and bonus depreciation. These are basically the only 3 ways, and none of them are really controversial

If they pay $0 tax, which isn’t even exactly true, then it’s because they had $0 taxable income

What kinds of shenanigans?

1

Half of the payroll tax comes from the employer as well. They also pay property tax and unemployment tax.

They also pay corporate tax. Without their tax return, we don’t know how much though. But since their tax returns aren’t public record, nobody can honestly say that they paid $0 in 2017, it’s just guessing

“0 corporate tax havens” If only there was a way to stop that behavior. Maybe something you mentioned seconds earlier

1

COMMENT 2h ago

What would a fair share be? Corporations usually pay a lot of taxes

I think the Great Depression would have an opinion on which option is correct

1

COMMENT 11h ago

Maybe if countries would change their international tax laws like the US has, we wouldn’t have this problem anymore

At the same time, if Saudi Arabia or the UAE wants to store money in the caymans, that’s not really impacting most of us either way

What exactly has failed?

COMMENT 11h ago

You’re acting like rich people are getting rid of their entire tax liability through tax havens, which isn’t remotely true

COMMENT 11h ago

I understand that, it’s due to our supply chain shortages. From 2009 to the beginning of 2020, we’ve had unnaturally low inflation and high money supply growth

4

COMMENT 11h ago

Why haven’t we seen inflation with the rapid increase of the money supply from 2009 to 2020? The fed paying interest on bank reserves so that banks aren’t creating new money on low reserve requirements

People that save excess money or use it to pay off debt isn’t going to cause inflation. Where would the price signals come from?

Supply shocks, like we’ve seen with Covid, cause inflation without the benefit of a strong economy

I don’t think there’s much evidence to suggest that leveraged buybacks are causing bond risk to increase. Most of the risk from corporate bonds come from the lack of collateral and a low interest rate environment that incentivized debt financing over equity financing, but buybacks make up a very small share of this

Leveraged buybacks aren’t indicative of short-term focus. The entire reasoning is that the shares will increase in the future and the company will be better off

Supply shocks also cause inflation, like in the 1970’s. Printing money alone won’t necessarily increase inflation if people aren’t spending it or banks are keeping excess reserves.

Stock buybacks are more tax advantageous than dividends, but the end result is pretty similar. There are also multiple reasons to buy back shares as opposed to paying dividends, like getting shares for stock compensation plans, preventing a takeover, or signaling that you think your shares are undervalued

Before 1981, they would just pay dividends
