Whenever I fly any sort of distance (4+ hours) I bring a gift for the flight staff. Something they can share amongst themselves that's also obviously not homemade, like a box of chocolates or something. I've never once gotten a reaction other than overwhelming gratitude, since they have to deal with so many assholes on the regular.

I'm willing to admit this could be a cop non-uniformed (but driving a squad car?).

Yes, that does happen. Many departments let cops take the squad cars home or use them as their personal vehicle. This guy was probably in the area when the call went out, and being the closest cop to an active incident, he responded. Also, all cops in the US automatically are allowed to carry concealed in all 50 states regardless of local laws.

The 2nd video also doesn't show much of anything other than the ground, because it's being filmed by an absolute idiot. But all available evidence points to him being a cop. The clothes match those being worn by the cop seen exiting the cop car in the rest of the video, he's standing next to the cop car when he draws his gun, he rushes over to help the other cops.

What else do you want? There's nothing here that says that he isn't a cop, and plenty of evidence that says that he is one.

I could see the US getting involved almost just due to the effects of chip makers in Taiwan having their factories shut down/destroyed in the invasion/taken over by the CCP with back-doors baked into everything. The current chip shortage is bad enough just due to increased demand while they've been pumping out chips faster than ever; can you even imagine what would happen if the majority of the worlds chip manufacturing suddenly stopped?

COMMENT 12h ago

No, you clearly see this guy exit the first cop car that shows up in the second video. It rolls up and he gets out to talk to the driver. The first video starts later on in the timeline, as the second cop car rolls in and hits the woman in the car. Immediately following the woman crashing, he runs over to help the other cop.

Your only piece of evidence that this isn't a cop is that he's not in uniform, even though we see him exit a cop car, act like a cop, and work with the other cops. He's clearly a cop. Hell, he even knows that since he isn't in uniform, the other cops are going to be very trigger happy and puts his gun away asap so they don't see "regular dude with a gun" and freak out like cops are prone to do.

He literally rolls up in a cop car and gets out of it in the second. What else do you think he is?

Thanks! I've heard the 1 year/inch rule before, but is there a certain length of time I should wait before cutting the slabs?

For sealing the end grain, just slather it in glue? I've seen some wood turners mention a wax paint or something like that, but I'm not sure how economical it is for this much surface area.

Neighbor had a poplar tree cut down, the workers let me have the wood (~30 of 4-6' sections of the trunk, 11"-25" in diameter). What now?

The only time I haven’t seen roaches is in houses that are well sealed and have central air.

OP, just so you know, places that qualify as "well sealed" and have central air are like 3% of the homes in Hawaii.

Okay, I made that percentage up, but there's very, very few of them, and most of them are pretty expensive.

I don't have wet dreams of using my firearms in self-defense, I have nightmares of it. I never want to deal with the pain and trauma of a break-in and subsequent lethal use of force. But I can not deny that firearms are, by far and away, the best method of self defense that mankind has ever devised.

That said, after a quick perusal of OP's profile, they seem to be a young woman in California in her 20's that recently had a DUI, in/around San Francisco that is going through nursing school.

So they live in a very anti-gun state, in a very anti-gun city with a known drug and homeless problem, and has recently lost their ability to drive due to their own idiotic alcoholic actions.

My recommendation now: get the fuck out of SF (regardless of who you are, this is good advice), and find a better place to live that has decent pubic transportation so they don't have to worry about driving.

That's been my understanding, based on their messaging and marketing. I'm not too keen on giving money to an organization that is just another republican mouthpiece like the NRA is.

The only people who win in a knife fight are the insurance companies and the doctors who get paid to stitch you up later. No one who participates in a knife fight wins. No one.

"I want to bake a cake, but I refuse to use ovens, toaster ovens, or anything that gets hot"

That's the same mentality. If you need to defend yourself, a firearm is THE best tool, hands down. Nothing else on the planet even comes close.

Without firearms, the options are: Bow and arrow (a bad choice for close-range, and long reload times compared to a semi-auto firearm) or melee weapons, which by design put you close to your attacker(s). All of which are clearly inferior to firearms in all aspects.

There simply is no replacement for a good gun.

If they're looking for home defense melee weapons, a baseball bat or crow bar would do way better than a mag light. Those are generally only used to establish "plausible deniability" by saying "they weren't carrying a weapon, they were carrying a flashlight, and just so happened to use it to fend off their attacker".

Or a shelter, or anywhere that a "stray" cat is picked up. It's one of the first things checked.

For any curious, the rifle they're holding is the SKS, which (according to my very limited experience) tends to serve the same purpose/function as the M1 Garand as far as parades and drills go.

If you're renting from a large firm, sure. There's a ton of land lords out there that are just someone with a 2nd house that don't have a ton of extra money. Not saying that they're good (or bad) people either, just that the assumption that landlords = uber wealthy is wrong.

9

COMMENT 5d ago

Absolutely.

From the renter's perspective, they're paying more per month than what they would be for a mortgage for the same place. They're also not responsible financially if a storm destroys the roof, the basement floods, the water heater dies, etc.

I hate that rent and home prices have skyrocketed so much in so many parts of the country, but rent vs. buy isn't as simple as "paying $700/month vs. $1200/month".

18

COMMENT 5d ago

As much as it sucks, the reason is who owns the risk if you don't pay. If you stop paying your rent, the landlord is the one who loses money. If you stop paying your mortgage, the bank loses money. Sure, people can more easily afford a cheaper mortgage payment vs. a higher rent, but the banks dgaf.

There absolutely was a flip, and literally no American historian worth their title will disagree with me. You might disagree due to massive misinformation, but it doesn't change the fact that Lincoln Republicans are today's Democrats.

-3

COMMENT 6d ago

You're ignoring the party flip in the late 1800s/early 1900s where the polices and ideologies of the Democrats and Republicans flipped, so the current Republicans are more likely to want a return to the slave-owning days than not (just look at the overlap of who flies the "Confederate" flag and who self-identifies as Republican; it's a circle.).

(That ought to get me about negative seventy votes around here)

Given how right-leaning this sub is, I highly doubt it.

Now, my views I suspect would get me -70 votes easily, since I'm left-wing on basically everything but guns.

"Ls can't win! -> No one votes for Ls -> Ls don't win -> "Ls can't win!"....

It's a vicious cycle.

Well, with the Rs systematically imploding thanks to Trumpism-retardation literally killing off its base thanks to politicizing pandemic protocols as some sort of party-loyalty display, it's about time we replaced one or both parties with something else. I don't agree with the Libertarians on a lot of things, but their stance on guns is something that I can get behind.

That sounds like a good reason to get rid of the electoral college, tbh. Or at least to have every state award electoral votes proportionally, instead of winner-take-all.
