He's written so weirdly, it's hard to know whether it is the character that is off-putting, or if it is the actor. I mean, he is so ambiguous and fussy, and he's got really distant, strange parents---who don't even have any idea what he likes to eat---and if he's a mystery to them, how are we supposed to relate to him? I have no idea if he's good at his job or not, if he's brave or not, or what is really important to him. Maybe they would have fleshed him out in later seasons or explained his general lack of personality---is he an android?!---but yeah, hard to argue with whiny little morbid git.

That makes it easier to put the ear-poison in.

The Big Lebowski. Is it a stoner film? The main character is a stoner, I suppose, but no one else is, and it doesn't have typical stoner humor (e.g., Cheech & Chong). The jury is still out for me on this...
