Oh god, that sounds awful and I’m sorry you’re going through this.
My SO is a carnist (we were together for 7 years before I became vegan) which can be tough, but I think we have some unspoken rules that make things easier. I don’t lecture him about his eating (I can get away with passing comments but I know he’ll dig his heels in if I try to push him), I don’t handle any animal products so if he wants meat then he has to cook it and wash the pans afterwards, and we don’t criticise each other’s lifestyles. As a result, his meat intake has decreased substantially because he’ll happily eat a lot of the meals I make. The one real issue is that he doesn’t like most vegetables so he’ll really only eat the mock meats which are expensive and high in salt.

I know how you feel. I went to the Natural History Museum in London a couple of weeks ago and they have an exhibit about how we’re trashing the planet and how bad farming and stuff is. My SO looked at it, read everything, seemed to take it all in, then we went for dinner and he ordered a beef burger.

I’ve never been a salad fan, but I went to a bbq last weekend and the salad game was strong. I am super into salad now (managed to score some leftovers too so I’ve had salad for lunch all week). My favourites were a lentil and quinoa salad (red and white quinoa, puy lentils, onion flakes and pomegranate seeds dressed with soy and ginger) and a fattoush.

I just worked out what I’m eating today and I will probably spend about £2 on food.
Supplements: multivitamin - £0.10 Calcium - £0.08
Breakfast: 50g organic oats (you can buy cheaper ones but they can be a little dusty, so I prefer these) - £0.11 13g dried cranberries - £0.11 10g almond butter - £0.16 5g sesame seeds - £0.05 1g turmeric - £0.02 25g alpro vanilla yoghurt - £0.08
Lunch: I actually have a huge pile of salads that were left over from a bbq I attended last weekend, so lunch this week is free, but last week was 200g chickpeas - £0.28 200g mixed beans in spicy tomato sauce - £0.32 10g spices - £0.19
Snacks: 30g sweetcorn - £0.05 5g spices - £0.01 10g flora light - £0.19
Dinner: I quite often make my sauces from scratch which usually works out cheaper because I have all of those ingredients already, but let’s say I picked up a stir fry sauce from Tesco 200g tofu - £1 75g noodles - £0.50 Sauce - £0.35
That comes in at £2.03 from Tesco (with a Clubcard). Yes, I appreciate you have to buy a lot of the ingredients in bulk, but everyone does - you don’t buy a bowl of cereal, you buy a whole pack. Maybe once a week I’ll treat myself to a mock meat and a bit of chocolate, which does come in a bit more expensive, but there’s often a cheaper treat I can have, like some popcorn or biscuits.

Don’t slag your SO off to other people. I’ve seen it so many times when one partner goes crying to their friends or family every time they have any kind of argument or issue, then they wonder why their friends or family don’t like their SO. If all you saw of your friend’s relationship was the aftermath of arguments, of course you wouldn’t think they were right for each other.

Yup, my ex was like that. Every single one of his exes was “crazy” or “psycho”. Took me a longer time than I’m proud to see the issue there.

I always top my oats, mainly because they are so dry and bland on their own. I usually mix in turmeric, hemp seeds, sesame seeds, dried cranberries, anything else I find in the cupboard, and top with vanilla yoghurt.
When we get closer to winter, I can imagine adding some winter spices for no other reason than it makes me happy and cosy.

I know that feeling. I only have to get up for a second and one of the cats will be in my spot and, if I get there first, I only have to make eye contact for a cat to jump in my lap.

I was just scrolling through these comments and thinking “I’d love a big cat”, then I saw this and remembered where one of ours sleeps - she sleeps on our bed, in between me and my SO. She’s just over 4kg (9lb) and she still stretches out and takes up almost half the bed. A bigger cat would push us on the floor.

Yeah, I think not inviting partners is okay if it’s consistent, like have to be living together or have to have been together for two years or something, but this seems weird.

This is like my fILs. We’re very different people, even FH doesn’t have much in common with them. They just generally don’t take much interest in anything but I think that’s just how they are.
I don’t think many people are as excited as we had hoped, but I guess it’s not their wedding so it’s not really as exciting for them.

Your hair sounds a lot like mine. Mine comes halfway down my butt, is almost completely straight, doesn’t hold a curl and is prone to flyaways. I’m a little undecided because if I wear my hair down it covers too much of my dress, but my long hair does make me feel more me.
I’m doing my own hair but my plan is to put it in a high braided bun for the ceremony, secure it with a few bobby pins (it seems to stay pretty well when I do that) and tame the flyaways with an anti-frizz spray and a light hairspray, then I only have to pull half a dozen pins out and I can have my hair down in the evening. It also gets some lovely waves in it when it’s been in a bun all day so I think that will work well.

I hoped this too, but I always get concerns if someone says they are too busy to text. I can’t imagine she couldn’t put aside even 30 seconds to fire off a quick message - I mean, surely she had a few minutes when she woke up, went to sleep, or even just down time at some point, or at very least I’m sure she had to take a shit while she was there. And, even if she somehow had no time for any of those, if someone is important, you make time for them.

I was thinking “I wouldn’t mind Charlie Sheen as Arthur”, then I realised I was thinking of Michael Sheen. You’re right, Charlie Sheen as Arthur would be the worst thing ever. Michael Sheen on the other hand, I think could do it.

Ooh, that sounds lovely. We were thinking rustic, but our venue isn’t massively rustic, so I think we’re going quite traditional with a bit of a rustic/boho twist.

I think we’re going mainly green foliage because our wedding is in February and there’s not a lot of flowers around at that time so foliage is cheaper, plus our venue have offered us any foliage from the gardens when they’re trimming back, but I think we’re going to break it up with some white/ivory roses.

If you pick a popular wedding colour, you have to know it’s a popular wedding colour, right? We nearly did navy and blush, but we changed our minds and have gone green and silver, but I think I’ve lost count of the number of navy weddings I’ve been to.

I was thinking of having just the two of us dance for a small part of the song, enough that we can get a few photos, then we’ll get the other guests dancing to. I haven’t 100% worked out how we’ll do this yet, but I’m thinking maybe ask the photographer to signal to the bridesmaids when he’s got what he needs and they can start dancing with their partners, which should snowball other guests into dancing too, particularly if we let a few other guests (parents etc) know that they can start dancing when the bridesmaids do.
I don’t think it’s insensitive to single guests. Couples will usually dance together at weddings - as long as you don’t only do slow songs all night, you should be fine.
