Americans know it’s not free, it’s pre-paid through taxes. Some Americans think that it’s cheaper and that a tax increase that’s smaller than the current insurance premiums is a good deal. They want it. Others feel that the savings won’t materialize. Still others distrust the government and feel that corporate executives with a fiduciary responsibility to increase profits are better gatekeepers of medical care. Others think that the government is incompetent so even if it means well it will mess everything up. Others are simply opposed to “socialism”. Others simply don’t like change. Others profit from the current system. I know I’m forgetting some reasons: there are plenty. Add it all up and “don’t support government single payer healthcare” gets you more votes than “support government single payer healthcare”. So that’s what the politicians do. They don’t support and won’t pass laws for government single payer healthcare.

Eventually. They do always pay their bills, but sometimes you can starve waiting for that. Source: worked for a company making parts for a Navy contract. Our financial person’s job mainly consisted of making phone calls to walk the paperwork from desk to desk in the Pentagon until final approval and they released the money that had been budgeted for the project.

Might be difficult to find because they assume everyone is tall and skinny or short and fat. When I was younger I was short and skinny. If it fit my waist it was too long. If the length was right, the waist was at least 4 inches too big. But it was easy to tell. Pants sized as “x waist, y inseam” are easier to understand than women’s “size x, which is the same as some other manufacturer’s size y”

Wow! Never thought of that. Someone should write a Zombie Apocalypse story where the virus is Zoonotic. Zombie dogs, cats, pigs…

Court might take into account that this is a tax exempt organization recognized by the IRS as a religious organization. That has given them standing in previous court cases.

Lawsuit against anyone that helped her get the abortion. They pay. Could be the friend who looked up the number to the clinic, the Uber driver, Uber, whoever aided.

Yeah. What he needed access to is a copy of the production database so bad joins only affect the reporting system.

Normal? Any and everything is normal when it comes to the timeline for grief. Fast, slow, delayed, long lasting. It hits different people differently but it’s all normal

The only universal right in the US is the right to die. But only from COVID, gunshot, dehydration, something else beyond your control. You expressly do not have the right to kill yourself.

Old but relevant. Got this version from r/jokes by u/horkuto, but I couldn’t figure out how to properly link on mobile into this thread. Copy/pasted instead, with attribution. AFAIK, that’s not against the rules, but I’d prefer to have linked.
Two Boats and a Helicopter
Not my joke
A storm descends on a small town, and the downpour soon turns into a flood. As the waters rise, the local preacher kneels in prayer on the church porch, surrounded by water. By and by, one of the townsfolk comes up the street in a canoe.
"Better get in, Preacher. The waters are rising fast."
"No," says the preacher. "I have faith in the Lord. He will save me."
Still the waters rise. Now the preacher is up on the balcony, wringing his hands in supplication, when another guy zips up in a motorboat.
"Come on, Preacher. We need to get you out of here. The levee's gonna break any minute."
Once again, the preacher is unmoved. "I shall remain. The Lord will see me through."
After a while the levee breaks, and the flood rushes over the church until only the steeple remains above water. The preacher is up there, clinging to the cross, when a helicopter descends out of the clouds, and a state trooper calls down to him through a megaphone.
"Grab the ladder, Preacher. This is your last chance."
Once again, the preacher insists the Lord will deliver him.
And, predictably, he drowns.
A pious man, the preacher goes to heaven. After a while he gets an interview with God, and he asks the Almighty, "Lord, I had unwavering faith in you. Why didn't you deliver me from that flood?"
God shakes his head. "What did you want from me? I sent you two boats and a helicopter."

Visa sponsorship is difficult. I once worked as a manager and it was only after I interviewed about a dozen US citizens that applied but weren’t qualified that I was able to justify sponsoring a qualified candidate’s visa. Out of the applicants he was the most qualified and we wound up hiring him. But the amount of paperwork and documentation required was insane. If there are a decent amount of qualified US candidates, you won’t get in.
