I've never seen anything quite this big, but doing a night dive on a WW2 shipwreck and seeing the bow of the ship loom over you, out of the inky blackness into the comparatively tiny circle of light cast by your handheld torch, the gaping holes in the tortured, rusted steel encrusted with coral and weed, and seeing giant groupers, who hide during the day when the majority of divers are there, emerging, silent and enormous. Hulking beasts whose mouth could easily engulf your head.

One of my companions, startled, kicked me in the face and my mask came off. There I was, 15m underwater, in pitch blackness and now unable to see even the minuscule amount provided by my light. I rolled over and stopped kicking while I refitted my mask, but by the time I had it back on again, I'd been breathing so heavily that I'd ruined my neutral buoyancy, drifted up about 10m and lost my companions. I surfaced, now alone, in the darkness and unsure what was below me, apart from the memories of the things I'd seen, on the edge of my vision.

The whole question I had around that was; what would make your physician choose to give you a cognition test? The answer is; a reasonable suspicion that you are showing signs of cognitive decline, i.e. dementia. So: he was bragging that "my doctor thought I might have dementia, but he gave me a test and I showed that my brain is broadly functional".

I don't know why, but I feel like the caimans aren't that big a deal. You hear them easily, they don't move very fast and it's a one shot kill if you hit them in the head with a spear.
