Most Americans can't afford to take FMLA because they won't get paid.

Went to the car dealership a few days ago for an oil change. They used to let folks waiting change the channel to whatever they wanted and I would often have to sit and listen to FOX News because everyone else did and I didn't care to fight for the 30 minutes I'd be there. Now, it's permanently set to the Weather Channel.

I posted about it a couple of days ago, but as a female, I was also warned about the Fiji house in 1988. This isn't new for them. It seems things have only gotten worse over the years.

Damn. Absolutely horrific. These bastards should have been shut down 30 years ago when I was there.

Can you point me toward a news article about the part you wrote that said, "A woman was brutally raped and left on the front lawn." I'd like to share the info, but I can't find any references to it.
I've looked at the twitter link and the 1011now link and they don't mention it. The DN story didn't mention it either. It did mention talk of the protest spreading via online platforms, but Reddit is the only one I have and I'm not sure how to find the information on other platforms.

As a female freshman in 1988, I was warned never to go party at their house. Everyone knew then rape was problematic there. It happened at other frats as well, but this was the place everyone warned you about first.

Yep. The comments didn't get that specific and I can't find them again to double check. :( I didn't realize there was a communications and testimonial privilege. Thanks for giving me a proper jumping off point to go read more about it.

It's been a while since I listened to it, but in the History of English podcast, it was discussed that a lot of animals used to be called "deer." There was no distinction at first because there was no other word for not only deer, but other four-legged creatures running around in the woods that could remotely be similar to a deer.
The word eventually evolved and we got lots of other names for animals, but maybe Dutch, like a lot of other languages, just kept the one name for apes and monkeys and never made distinction.
I'm not a linguist so I don't know. I just found that part of the podcast interesting.

For things that happen during the marriage. Before, that's free game. There have been threads on the internet the past day about this.

They have to clean the cars regularly because people leave trash all over and paint the cars with graffiti.

Op didn't even take a picture of the dinosaur there, which is way cooler than the cars.

As an American, I think it's cool as shit you were able to study there. I took French in high school and college, but struggled to speak well when I was in France (visited four times so far). I never understood why people hate France so much. I found as long as I tried to speak the language and wasn't a dick, I didn't have any issues while there.
I'd really like to go back because there are still things I want to see and I have always enjoyed my time there.

If you haven't seen the documentaries, and I think there are links in this thread, be prepared if you watch the one (forget its name, but I think it's the one with the French brothers who were making a documentary) with the people jumping from the building. The firemen are in the lobby and you can hear the thuds of the people hitting the ground. It's a sound I won't ever forget.

If you don't care for it, just keep scrolling. OP said right in his title it what his post was about. I knew it was going to be a picture of OP and Grosjean. How hard is it to scroll on by rather than make a long post about how much you hate it and want the posts banned?
If Grosjean, or any other driver, was ever in western Nebraska where I live, I'd be giddy as hell, would take a photo with them, buy them a drink, and post it here. Why? Because it was something that made me happy and I've been a fan of Grosjean's since the beginning. I would likely also talk to him about anything except F1 or any other driving shit and just have a conversation. People like to share things that make them happy. Who cares what the topic is? If it makes them happy, let them be.
Although I'm jealous of anyone who gets to meet drivers, I'm also happy for them because of the joy you can see in their faces. Don't be a dick if you don't like these photos. Just move on.
I don't have a Twitter or Instagram account, so I appreciate when people post things from there to Reddit. Sometimes, the Instagram pictures won't show unless you're logged in. It's a little frustrating, but I keep going.
It's fine if you only care about drivers when they're racing. A lot of people like to learn more about the drivers.
Even if I'm not a fan of whatever driver the person drew, I can appreciate the effort that went into making whatever art others share, regardless of whether it is digital, pencil, ink, etc.
All your post does is shit all over fans. Fans come in different flavors. Different things make different people happy. The post is allowed by the rules of r/formula1. If you don't like the post, keep scrolling. Life is too short to shit all over other people and be negative all the time. Be happy for them and move on. You'll be happier, too.

My mom couldn't afford the cost of an instrument and couldn't afford to swing rental payments, but she could afford the $7 for drumsticks and $10 for a practice pad (what it cost her in the 1970s), so I became a drummer. In the process, because the school supplied the variety of instruments, I became a percussionist. I fully realize how lucky I was, especially because I fell in love with the timpani and was often assigned to play it in high school wind ensemble.

I worked with a young man who had Duschene's Muscular Dystrophy. I started working with him when he was 11 and he passed away about a month before his 21st birthday. He could walk normally until around age seven. Then, he had to use crutches for a little over a year. By the time he was nine, he was permanently in a wheelchair.
He used to tell me stories of what it was like to be able to walk and the things he could do. He mostly accepted what was happening to him, but it broke my heart because it is something he couldn't ever get back and there was such a sadness in his voice when he talked about the loss of friends because he couldn't do what they did anymore.

This is what I did in 1993. It always boggles my mind that people don't do it now. Ended up marrying a Brit 25 years ago. He's a US citizen now. Some of my closest friends are from The Netherlands and Greece. We have our cultural differences, but I learned a long time ago we aren't so different from each other after all. I even wrote a column about this very thing.

What "leave" is depends on the job in the USA, but it generally means vacation time. Holidays are extra days off and depends on where you work whether you are getting the day off. If you work in any kind of service industry - restaurants, hospitals, retail, etc., you're probably going to have to work on holidays.
I get one week per year plus certain holidays like Christmas and Thanksgiving. However, I don't always get paid for holidays. I work at the local youth shelter and you only get paid for the holidays you work. So, if Christmas is on a Monday (one of my days off), I don't get paid for it. If it falls on a day I do work, I have to work that day, but get paid double my usual salary.
In 2021, I was/will be screwed out of holiday pay for Easter, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day.
I also do not get sick time.
